  • Finale 2008 and VE Interaction Persists in Version 2.0 of VE (at least on Macs)

As was true of the previous version of the OS X version of VE - - released 10/31/07 (but not of the initial Beta release), launching Finale 2008  initiates a launch of Version 2.0 of VE (released Nov, 8, 2007) - - despite the fact that, due to a contractual agreement between MakeMusic (manufacturer of Finale) and Native Instruments, the only plugins available directly in Finale 2008 are those "powered by Native Instruments." As before, this means waiting through the license scanning process every time one initially opens Finale after the computer has been started or rebooted. It would be great if this problem got fixed.

  • Thanks, Marnix. So in the meantime, how do I get VE off so that I can run Finale again? Thanks, Michael

  •  Hi Michael,

It should suffice to delete the ViennaEnsemble.component at Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components.

If this still does not work, please go through the following deinstallation routine:

    1. Trash the Vienna Ensemble folder from Macintosh HD/Applications

    2. Trash the Vienna Ensemble plugin files from Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components and /VST

    3. Trash the VSL Custom Data folder from Macintosh HD/Users/Shared

    4. Trash the Preference files:
    -com.vsl.vsldirs1.plist
    -com.vsl.vslfrontend.plist
-com.vsl.appPresets.plist (if this one is not there, please do not worry!)
    from Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences

    5. Trash the receipt files:
    ViennaEnsembleOSX-2.0-Beta.pkg and ViennaEnsembleOSX-2.0.pkg
    from Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts

    6. Empty Trash

    7. Restart your computer

    8. Reassign your Vienna Instruments Collections in Vienna Instruments Directory Manager.

    9. Reset your Custom Data Folder in Vienna Instruments Directory Manager to its old location

Please let us know wether this solved the problem!

    Best, Marnix

  • Hi Marnix, Indeed dragging the VE component out did do the trick of preventing Finale from starting Vienna Ensemble. However, now I can't use the Ensembe in Digital Performer. and I really wanted to check it out. Is there anyway to do this? Kinny Landrum
