Bug, causing ram to vanish, also in VE?
I recognize many patches eating up more ram than they should do. E.g. Before loading a FL1 patch my perform control tells me, I have 4400 MB free. After loading the patch, claiming to be 9 MB large, there´s only 4375 MB free anymore, even though there should be 4390 MB left. Any ideas where the problem is? I have a G5 with OS 10.4 and Logic 8.

I read about this bug appearing with Vienna Instruments, but did not find a solution in this forum. Is there anyone from the support, knowing how this has been solved with the VI-problem? Before loading the VE-Plugin into Logic 8 (Mac OS 10.4 on G5 2 Ghz dual, 7 GB Ram), there are about 3 GB ram free. The instruments, loaded into VE, are using about 600 MB according to the Sample Management Indicator of VE, but after loading there are only 1,5 GB ram free, which means 900 MB are lost in space. In this case there are 7 instruments included in the VE plugin. Not enough to eat up 900 MB. Thanks for your help!

i'd assume you are referring to a certain issue occuring on XP64 with ViennaEnsemble related to corrupt sample data files, i'm not aware of such an issue with ViennaInstruments (single instance interface) on OS X.
however the memory management of OS X is somehow a secret and there is nothing a developer can do to change its behavior.
have you double checked your activity monitor (memory usage of processes) which app is using this ressources?

Could be that corrupt sample data bug, I thought of. I´ve just check the activity monitor again. Here are some numbers; Before loading VE with just logic 8 open: reserved 260 MB, active 125 MB, inactive 260 MB. After loading VE with 14 instruments inside and 440 MB samples loaded: reserved 753 MB, active 158 MB, inactive 1,1 GB. I´m loosing RAM on: Vienna Ensemble: 700 MB, kernel-task: 50 MB, WindowServer: 150 MB.

Sorry! That was my one-to-one translation from german to english. So "reserved" means "wired". Just in case, I explained that wrong: The 440 MB samples is the amount of samples loaded into VE, according the "memory used" in the VE performance window. What I specially don´t understand is the rising of inactive memory, since this is also missing afterwards in the VE performance "memory free" window. So loading VE with 440 MB eats up 1366 MB. (Before loading: 645 MB used, after loading: 2011 MB used)
