  • Do you apply reverb at slave computer or send signal back dry to host?

    Just curious as to what some of you who work with slave computers do. When you're not mastering or doing final mix but just in the writing process (say, when you're using a temp reverb), do you insert the reverb on your instrument (flute, trumpet, etc.) before it comes back from the slave to your DAW? Or do most of you send the signal back dry the DAW and apply the reverb in your host program? I'm sending it back dry to the host processing. Just wondering if there are advantages I might not be thinking of as to the other way.

  • I send everything dry but panned. I usually print each section as dry audio. That allows me to use better verbs and mastering plugs to mix. It also lets me bring up a mix for tweaking quickly instead of having to load up all the slaves and the samples again in order to remix.

  • Thanks for the help. I'm sending them back dry and panned as well. And while writing, the dry signal is getting sent through some general reverb in Sonar by varying amounts -- but nothing accurate, just basically placed in performace space. I've not used convolution reverb yet, but am looking forward to what Altiverb might bring to my table in short future.
