  • Panning and Reverb in VE

    Please could somebody advise if my methodology of panning and applying reverb within Vienna Ensemble is correct?  This is what I'm doing:

    1.  Creating individual channels for each instrument within a given section (eg. various 1st violin articulations).

    2.  Creating seperate stereo buses for each section (eg. 1st Violins, 2nd Violins, Violas etc.) 

    2.  Routing all instruments within each section to it's own bus (eg. all 1st Violin articulations routed to the 1st Violin bus etc.).

    3.  Using the pan control on the individual instrument channels (eg staccato 1st violins) to position the instrument correctly on the stage.

    4.  Leaving the section buses panned to full width.

    5.  Inserting stereo->stereo reverb (altiverb 6 in my case) across each of the the busses, and not aplying any further panning.

    If my thinking is correct, this means that individual instruments/sections will be panned to their correct stage position before reverb is applied, and the reverb should respond naturally to incoming panning information, resulting in a realistic sound.  Having individual reverbs across each section bus means that individual sections can then be treated slightly differently to reproduce distance from the listener.

    Does this make sense to anybody, or is there a better (or more technically 'correct') way to use panning and reverb in VE.
