  • Dramatic strings / violin

Hello! I'm a newbie so this is a newbie question. I would like to know that which combinations of strings (violin, viola, cello etc) are good to go if i want to orchestrate an aggressive / dramatic piece. Here's some examples of similar sounds i'm looking for:

    Clint Mansell - Lux Aeterna:

    Light Orchestra - Tightrope:

    Craig Armstrong - O Verona

    in advance.

  • I don't know these pieces, but the two strongest most dramatic string pieces with VSL are Jeux de vagues by Andy Blaney and Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis realized by Jay Bacal. A lighter string ensemble is Danse Profane also realized by Jay Bacal.

  • Hi Mike,

If you are looking for dense strings with a big, expressive sound you will need a large ensemble in which case the VSL Appassionata Strings will be your best choice.

If you need a wide variety of articulations then go for the Orchestral Strings I and II. If you don't have that much money buy the Special Edition Extended.
