  • VSL Library HD?

In the manual you say the library is best installed on a seperate HD. Does this have to be an external one. I tried to install it on My Mac Pro HD2 but then the samples had a static. (I configured the directory manager and I rebooted) Does this hard disk only have to consist of VSL Libraries?

When do I get optimal performance?

  • As long as you have A fast External HD then that's fine. I use a USB 2.0 7200 RPM drive for mine, First edition and VI SE. The important thing is to keep the samples off the main HD so that the drive can be read without having to also read other things, thus improving sample delay.

  • seperately does not neccessarily mean external - in fact i would recommend sATA in any case (be it external or internal) ... we just like to tell you with the term *seperate* you should not install a sample library on the same harddrive as your operating system and applications whenever possible (please consider the difference between a VOLUME and a HARDDISK too), othrwise you would probably hit some limit earlier as neccessary.

usually the pagefile (virtual memory) resides on the system volume and using OS X this would additionally be journaled - both not the best choice for audio data.
