  • Help! With RAX and Soundflower

Hi I know this is a vienna forum, but I posted this in other forums and no one replied! Everybody here is so helpful so I thought I would try and post here.

I have an intel mac and I was trying to get atmosphere running on it. I read about the workaround and set it up but I am having some problems!! I really hope someone can help!

I installed soundflower and RAX, i then went into apple>audio and Midi setup and opened my IAC driver. I added a new port called spectrasonics and activated the IAC driver. Then I opend RAX and set the MIDI IN to spectrasonics and the audio out to soundflower. Then I open atmosphere inside RAX and load a patch. So it is all set up.

Now here is my problems :

    1) When I try and use DP when I create a midi track and set it's output to spectrasonics, DP complains about a MIDI loop back and won't enable the track. How do I stop this? Also I set up a aux track to bring in soundflower but it can't find it? If ichange my audio device in the preferences then how do I send the audio out to my MOTU?

    2) Then I tried Logic, in logic I created a external midi track and set it's output to spectrasonics and it triggers atmosphere ok, but there is a loop back also and the note just keeps playing? How do I stop this? Also, I have the same problem with soundflower! How do I get the audio back into logic?

I would really appreciate any help from someone who is running non intel mac plugins on an intel mac!! I have read alot of peolple using it, but just can't seem to work it out.

    Thanks,
    Simon

  • I'm a little rusty with DP, but in Logic you have to go to the Click and Ports layer of the Environment. Disconnect the Sum cable, and only draw cables from actual physical inputs to the next object (usually Input Notes, but whatever it is on the way to "to Recording & Thru").

In other words, you need to remove the IAC bus returns that are creating the MIDI feedback loop.

  • Never used RAX, but here's a shot, this works for Kontakt standalone outside of DP. No need to use IAC, DP has its own method: 1. Under DP Setup menu, open "Interapplication MIDI" and create output ports. Call these whatever you want. 2. Open DP "Hardware" menu and select soundflower as well as your interface (shift click for multiple selections). 3 Open RAX, set output interface to "Soundflower" and under MIDI Input activate the ports from DP. 4. Create Aux track in DP, set input to the same "Soundflower" output coming from RAX. Done!
