    I can't seem to figure this one out, but I'm guessing the answer is right in front of me.  Help?

    If I'm playing Orch Strings or Appassionata Strings, and I want to repeat the same note a few times but I want to hear the back-and-forth sound of upbow-downbow legato, how do I do that?

    Hi Kerry

    Example: 

    You only can get stac1 and stac2 by force if the second (following) note has the same pitch (situation of repetitions). Further the midi off of the note before should be as close as possible to the next following one. I suspect (similar to the legato articulations) < 50ms.

    All Short Notes are coming with two samples per articulation. So you also get them with Woodwinds and Brass.

    People of VSL have to correct me if I'm wrong.

    Hi,

    let me add that you get a different articulation (depending on the alternations recorded, 2-4)) automatically with all repeated short notes in a longer timeframe (can´t remember if it is 2 or 3 seconds).

    It doesn´t depend on whether you repeat the same note in that timeframe (G-G-G) or whether there is a different note inbetween (G-D-G).

    If the second "G" is triggered within the next 2-3 seconds, you will still trigger a different recorded version of the same note, no matter if there were notes played inbetween :-)

    Colin, there are no repetitions in the Special Edition, but of course the automatic alternation also works with the short notes of the Special Edition [:)]

    Thanks for clearing up the matters around alternations so far. Staune immer wieder, was euer VI leistet. 

    Nevertheless: 

    Do we have stac1, stac2, stac3 ... stac4 with every instrument - beside the repetitions? Did I misunderstand you?

    Hi Beat,

    immer wieder erfrischend, ein kleiner deutscher Sprachfleck [:)]

    The number of alternations is shown in the cell slot and also in the documentation, depending on your collection and the articulation you have up to 4 alternations with short single notes. Repetitions are a different system.

    So with most collections you have 4 staccato alternations and of course also the repetitions!

    The Special Edition is an exception with 2 alternations.

    For more details it´s best to take a look in the manual.

    Beat, thanks for chiming in!   I'm afraid I don't understand completely... but it sounds like if I'm playing a legato patch and I re-strike a note quickly, in an attempt to get a legato sound but reverse the bow direction, that doesn't work...  Paul, does that sound right?

     Hello Kerry, 

    we were actually talking about short notes and the alternation mode between different "alternate takes".

    In Legato Mode you get a repetition of the note you played if you repeat a note. Automatically [:)]

    Kerry, is what you mean, when you play the same note twice, in legato mode, the break between the notes (where the second note starts) sounds unnatural and obviously like two notes not connected legato?

    In the Special Edition, unfortunately, it sounds like there are no performance repetition patches? If I'm understanding you correctly, I think the way to get what you want would be to use these patches from the standard library. Sorry, it's not much help. But the App strings are well worth purchasing. Then you'd have some perf. repetition patches plus a whole lot more.

    I'm actually using the full Orch Strings I and Appass Strings sets, but trying to get a repeat of the same note, legato, as though you reversed the bow direction and dug into the beginning of that note with more intensity.   Paul,  thanks for responding -- I'll go back and tinker with it.  I wasn't able to get it to respond that way.   - Kerry
