  • Digital mess - urgent!

I've moved folders from one drive to another; added those folders in the Directory Manager; then deleted just the listing of the original folders. Then restarted the G5. Then rescanned in DM. Then started Logic. What came out of the speakers is like daleks put through a comb filter. All square wave shashy digital rubbish with some sort of musical instrument embedded deep down underneath. The library files still reside on the original drive. They have simply been delisted in DM. Have I missed a step?

  • Actually it's not just my VI's - Battery and Massive show the same digital noise problem. Aaaaaaaaaargh!

  • Weird to be posting to myself, but I've discovered what the problem is and felt I should let people know if they come across this phenomenon. Buffer size was mysteriously different in the Hardware Setup of Logic's Audio window from that in Core Audio Manager. 512 in Logic and 1024 in CAM. Question is, which is better - 512 or 1024? I can't change the 1024 in CAM for some reason, so I've had to change Logic to 1024. Strange how this disparity happened...

  • "Better" is not a good word in this context. Larger buffer sizes (read: higher latency) will give you smoother operation (which is good), but also longer delays between playing on a masterkeyboard and the start of a sample. You decide! :-)
