As a lof of other virtual mixer users I use busses for reverb (Pristine Space with my own IR's). On the inputs of my "dry" instruments I use TrueVerb as inserts to add ER's and push the instruments to the back. A bunch of TrueVerbs do not need much CPU for this (adding no tails, only ER's).
BTW for the VSL strings I have setup one common bus to add some ER's, but not as much as for the really dry instruments. This adds some subtle correction for the narrowing of the string groups with 4 Wave S1's. It also makes the basses coming out better on this "common" strings stage.
Before I set out with some extensive experimentation, I am wondering if any of you have ever tried to create ER-only IR's and use them as inserts on "dry" inputs. One way to create them would be to define a common stage with Voxengo Impulse Modeler and then to create different IR's by manipulating the source positions, in my case for dry woodwinds rows 1 and 2, dry horns left and dry brass right.
Would this lead to something acceptable, or would I be wasting my time? When I listen closely to the ER's added by TrueVerb, they do not really sound natural, although the combined signal does sound the like instruments are pushed some 8-10 meters backward.
Should I first experiment with RaySpace (which I bought a while ago without yet testing it...). I regret that I did not make ER-only IR's when I had a TCE 6000 at my disposal [:'(]
So, I am wondering if I can use 4 (more) Pristine Space instances with very short and "common space" IR's. Where is the typical point where ER's fade into the reverb tail? 120-150 msec?
