Sounds like you speak from "experience"!!

I'd set aside the installation of WW2 because it started to feel like 'WW3' fighting with it, but I'll give your suggestion a whirl a bit later. I've been a patient fellow-- bought the Cube back in February and waited for reports of more reliable updates, just working with the strings for a few months. Thought we'd gotten around the install and license read problems.

My latest ordeal is now with Syncrosoft-- again!! UGH!!! No matter where I put the Vienna Key, LCC doesn't recognize it. I thought I'd just get back to work with the volumes which were already installed. No dice. Redid Directory Manager several times, shut down, reboot, reinstalled LCC, shut down, reboot--- what a pain this is. I've been paralyzed for four days now dealing with all of this. It's SO unstable, unpredictable, and unreliable.

I've given this enough time for the bugs to be sorted out and have been patient long enough--longer than most. I just think it's awful that I've been forced to delay getting the Extended licenses in favor of investing in 'another orchestra library' until such time LCC and VI will allow me to use the Cube. Deadlines wait for no one. Unfortunately, neither do creditors! [:@] [:O]ops:

Very sorry, it was the rare day I didn't check in here due to absorption with work. You're generally better at this stuff so I'm sure I'll state the obvious.

I remember having to change the DVD volume number manually (in the prompt) in an early version of the library installer but I think that's been fixed. I'm sure you checked to see if the numbers matched (prompt# request and DVD inserted.) I had the same problem the other day when re-installing Orch strings and it turned out I had the right number but wrong collection. I'm sure you've done all this correctly though.)

Would you reboot each time you moved your key? I also had this problem the other day when trying to do a license transfer with all licenses disappearing but a few reboots and moving Keys around did it. You have a powered USB? I put one on it and the other in the front of the G5 and both worked after a couple reboots.

I understand your frustration and agree things should be more stabile and reliable. Send an email (if you haven't) to cm and hopefully things can get sorted for you.

Yes WW2 must feel like WW3 over there. Hang in bro help better be on the way.

JWL, you're on a mac, right?
please make sure you have the latest LCC installed from the syncrosoft website - the 5.0.6.x version should solve your USB problem.
with the woodwinds 2 there is indeed an improper information displayed regarding disk# - either you follow austin's suggestion (copy files to a folder on a local volume and run installer from there) or adjust the request for *disk2* to *disk3* after installation from the *real* disk2 completed.

Long ago, I set aside a dedicated USB port for the Vienna Key. All other dongles are on a hub. The Hub is disconnected whenever doing anything associated with LCC, but plugged in when booting my DAW to authorize those plugins that require it.

Thanks CM-- for the confirmation that something was wonky. Thought I was going nuts. No matter what I did, the "next" CD requested was always the one that was in the drive already.

I started to copy the first disc, but it gave me an ETA of 35 minutes. It would take 2.5 hours just to copy them and then "how long" to do the install. I think I remember doing this for SE and PE, but I've already spent 4 days wanking this puppy after 4 months of battling LCC headaches.

I've got a 20 minute demo due at the end of the week and just don't want to risk another four days driving full speed up a dead end street. Even spending another half day at this point would spell death for me.

I dunno-- I'm a patient guy. Really. But, the hurdles with Syncrosoft and the installation nightmares are just too prohibitive right now, sorry to say. I'm spending less than 10% of my time doing anything related to music and the rest of my time searching the forums for answers. I really thought I had it nailed with the strings running seemingly okay. Now I have $10k+ worth of software on $700+ worth of hard drives and I can never tell when it's going to glitch out on me.

With a G5 2.5 Dual holding now 8GB RAM, I can't even get an empty instance of VI to load any more.

Someday, I'll get it working, at which time I'll be back.

In the meantime, I'm embarrassed to think that a $300 orchestra library is what will be used to get the job done.

this is very unusual ... do you have journaling enabled on the destination drive (no good idea)? are there any AV-apps active like zone-alarm, norton, whatever (also no good idea)? normally the whole install of WW2 should take you about an hour, possibly 1 1/1 with a slow DVD-drive ...

Didn't know this was a problem cm, bad for streaming etc., I take it? Makes me think there should be an optimization do's and don'ts for mac/pc list somewhere (perhaps there is already?) Also explanation of DVD's with improper info on a sticky or something

I feel your pain. Sounds like you've done what you can. Indeed as cm said you can manually change the prompt request and not have to copy the disk to install. Little consolation if LCC doesn't work. I have no other dongles so I suspect that may be an issue if you have a few others even though you remove them when trying to initialize for VI. I imagine you've tried leaving all dongles in place and adding Syncrosoft? I'm sure you've tried everything.

i've tried already several times to argue, why formatting a drive HFS+ (journaled) is somehow contraproductive for volumes holding especially sample-data or generally audio-data (exception: pro tools recording device! - here journaling is recommended),
this document describes some pros and cons - please see mainly paragraph *When Should Journaling Be Used?*

the IMO biggest advantage of the journaled filesystem is the optimization feature (only working on your system drive!) moving often used files to the fastest region of your volume.
the drawback of journaling is that you don't get space back if you delete (or overwrite) files.

I never journal my HDs.

When adding the authorizations for the remaining VI volumes with Syncrosoft, no other dongles were attached to the computer. Even the MIDI-USB cable was disconnected during LCC authorization.

The Vienna Key remained in its own dedicated USB port (have tried several different ports for this), and the USB dongle hub had to be connected to a different port in order to authorize Altiverb and other plugins when booting the DAW in preparation for work.

Setting aside the troubles with WWII, I thought I would just begin working with VI and then use PE later for any WWII parts. Awkward, but it was a possible solution. Not even that is an option right now.

Again, the additional problem is Syncrosoft once again, which won't authorize any of my installed Cube volumes-- even the Strings, which worked for several weeks more or less without a problem. I now have 5.0.7.0 installed. All I get now is the spinning beachball of death.

I will have to wait until the weekend before I can start again on this. I do appreciate the advice and the additional info (via the link).

Although I'm quite unhappy at what's happening at the moment [:O]ops: [:'(] , I will continue to be patient even if it means that I can't use VI until another time.
