  • Also, whilst we wait for MIR. How does SIR compare to Voxengo ( I have lot of their plugs - best value on the market). Just don't want to buy a plug that will be replaced by MIR in just a few months.

  • I think it is save to say that the MIR is not necessarily going to replace one of the "general purpose" convoluters. Our engine has to rely on its own sets of IRs by principle, so conventional, "simple" impulse responses make no sense with it.

    I'm not sure if they all have the same policy about using their impulses, but yes, it's probably true.

    The point is that comparing convolution reverbs without regard to the impulse files is like asking which bottle would be better with dinner - and not knowing whether they contain wine, orange juice, or urine.

    Very true. This is the point where I am stuck right now (not on the YACC thing [:D] ). Most of the "Free Stuff" on the market seems to be re-sample of High end and not so High End Hardware like Lexington etc and some local community rooms.

    I am looking for real concert halls and opera houses that are professional sampled. ( I.e. Not like popping a balloon on an butt ugly sound stage in a nowhere studio.).

    Does anyone has recommendation where to look? I started at noisevault.com, but most of the links are pointing to the "popping balloon" category.
    And Wizoo, Altiverb and Wave seems to have their own formats or require their products. And from a legal standpoint, their IR files cannot be used somewhere else, I guess.

  • I forgot one cool thing:
    On echochamber.ch, there is a very good collection of HW IR's.

    And the coolest: The IR from the very famous Quantec (glory eigthies, where the most exciting gear was real life ANALOG) with the Taj Mahal Setting in excellent quality.
    I could not resist and run EPIC HORN cresc through the monument.

    Factor: ULTRA [:D] cool. Not very playable, but imagine eight horns from Vienna in the Taj Mahal!

  • Sorry Holgmeister, to my experience the best IRs up to now are not available for free. They come form AudioEase, Waves (read: Angelo Farina and his crew), and Numerical Sound (although they are not "real" rooms, but idealized representations of them).

    There are several other people doing heavy research in this direction, too, but AFAIk there are not ready fo the market yet.

  • I don't mind paying for the IR files, I was not looking for free stuff.
    But it seems there all IR files are depending on their software.
    It looks like I have to buy altiverb, if I want to get any professional IR.
    Is there no one who sells just the IRs ?
