joseph, let me define the format as *splitted interweaved* - this means the whole thing (each collection) is designed monolithic for several reasons: load time, avoid redundant samples, meta information, preload cache, ect. but it is also splitted because of the size to save the filesystem's strenght and give you the freedom to spread data across several locations (harddrives).
therefore it is not possible to delete data without loosing information for he whole object. one of the advantages with this design is, that you will be able to use the extended content actually of single instruments and do not inevitably need to extend a whole collection.
a timelimited demo mode will be available for the extended content within a collection to let you check out if it fits your needs before you might add a permanent license.

I'd just want to add that the datasize informations is based on uncompressed 24 Bit stereo files.
The audiofiles will be stored in our compressed format, so they will need 66% of the labeled datasize on your harddrive.

Further you can't delete parts of an instrument, but you can delete a complete instrument if you like.

Seriously though, that's 50% more data. But as Herb said above, you'd need 66% of the label size (i.e. 66% of 550GB) to store all VIs due to the compression format. So a 400GB labeled drive (being able to store about 370GB) should be just enough to store all VIs. Please someone from VSL correct me if I'm wrong.

A little headroom will help.

Of course you're right Paul, I forgot to mention that because it is obvious for me... the performance of a HD is suffering from being fully loaded. This has tecchnical reasons, the speed of a drive is also affected by the size of data that is stored. So for the Complete SC I'd either take a 500GB drive (expensive) or 2x250GB or 300GB and split the modules 5/5.

Now that's sensible. Two 250gb HD whizzing around at 10,000 rpm, warbling samples faster than we can write.
And warm enough to make toast as well.
