I'm a DP user. I was using Mach5 (Motu's 'own brand' soft sampler) but decided to get Kontakt 2:
(1) for the VSL included instruments
(2) for the future compatability with VSL editions - ie while sticking to my Mac / DP set up.
Although my sights are set on the Opus Bundle at the moment (it seems like the most logical first real edition to purchase) as soon as I aquire it I am sure I will be looking straight away towards upgrading/adding to my VSL library even further! So, yes, the more choice the better in this respect.
If Kontakt scipting will allow VSL to sidestep the performance tool (if my understanding of this is correct) then as soon as VSL/Native instruments reach a solution for protecting and implementing the scripts I can see VSL becoming *extremely* popular with Kontakt users! -The free content is enough to get anyone hooked on VSL, whether they have any tendencies towards things orchestral or not.
So to increase the Kontakt user demand for ANY VSL edition - just impliment the scripts! [:D]
