  • Comments on another short "demo"

click the link "Far Away" on the site for the mp3.
I'm interested in any comments. It is actually a sort of prelude to a romance peice - no idea what form it will take - I haven't written anymore than this much yet so I thought I would put it on my web site as a quick sample, but I'm interested in comments on it including the mix.

    Cheers,
    Miklos.

  • ...I like it.
It's smooth and simple, a liitle minimalistic though (it wears off a little fast...)
    Very spherical!
Which piano sound did you use?

    best regards

  • I just thought: hey, gimme more [;)] So far the piece and its mix sounded fine to me! Let's see how you end it, hehe.

  • Yeah it's only a beggining of something I suppose. I used Ivory piano.

I'll let you know when I have more. My hard drive on the G5 has not been replaced by apple yet - almost four weeks now. I've been booting off a firewire drive but it crashes all the time and now that drive is corrupt as well. !

    Damn computers!!

I like the compostion. Especially the beginning of it when the piano sticks out. It lost me when the sound grows at 34 secs. It's just my taste, I know, but then it starts sounding too much like production music. Nothing wrong with that per se.
For my taste, I feel the composition could be better of with a 'chamber' approach, boosting the intimate feeling of the opening and making it warmer. Maybe less strings (or no violins!). I think it would make it less 'slick', a bit more daring.

As it is now: add some lyrics and it certainly could be aired on the radio!

  • Thanks for your comments once again. I think I will remix this when I have altiverb arrive and change a few things I think placing the instruments more carefully and doing a better mix with the reverb will make it less muddy. ivory piano is very nice isn't it. (well ithink so)

  • Yep - Ivory sounds great.
I'm quite happy: I instaleld ivory two weeks ago but didn't use it yet - and when I heard your demo I though "grmpf - that's sure something else..."

    [:D]

  • The verb on the piano does seem too long. Depends what mood you're going for though, as it sounds nice'n'floaty as it is...

  • Yeah it is long, but I can't help it, I love that sound on pianos I'm always doing it. I love the space that it creates, although I'm always trying to find ways to have it sound cleaner at the same time.
