    Friends, Any suggestions on how to create a truly smooth legato line with the strings? To my ear, the legato pianissimo strings with PT tool are not as smooth as the long notes sus and susRS. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    there was a thread a week or two ago about using solo, chamber, and full sections to create more "real" sounding lines. I haven't experimented with it yet, not having most of the samples needed myself, but the demo file seamed impressive.

    Freudian slip I guess as joining these 3 sections into one could be called "seaming".

    Great work!!! However that was combining chamber , solo and pro edition if I am correct. I could try to combine solo violin with the full 14 since I do not have the chamber strings. But I still believe one should be able to have smoother legato with the pro edition. Try creating a smooth line with the string bass. No matter how I try, a cannot get a smooth line. Now, the cello section is much better. I can achieve a nice smooth line but you gotta work at it. Violins are the most difficult. They sound detached as you play each note no matter how hard you try. Are the Chamber stings better at a slow smooth legato line? The sound is there, I just think the legato tool should be better at this.

    I started a thread about this a year ago. If you increase the release time (via the giga editor) then you can make the transition as smooth as you like. I followed Herb's advice and mapped it to the modwheel. I hope that this helps.

    release time mapped to modwheel???? that sounds very usefull. time for me to hunt down the thread

    I believe because you have 3 sources (Pro, Chamber, Solo) they don't all start and end on the exact point is what makes it seem like the legato line is more realistic. I guess the same rule can apply to live strings, huh? How often does a 21 player section hit or stop on a dime all together.

    How do you do this procedure of increasing the release time to make it smooth? Is there any .art file I could use or instructions. This seems like the way to go!! Thanks to all for your help.

    I believe DG is referring to the Giga Editor to legthen the release times. However, note that I did NOT edit these patches at all. These are the new Giga 3.0 Art files straight out of the box. The path I followed was to lay the large pro edition section down first, a little heavy on the reverb. Then the chamber section over it....And then the Solo Violin over that. That passage was done failry quickly. I'm sure I could get it PERFECT with the right EQ and enough love.

    It also helps to know the original piece or the phrase you are attempting.

    Nice to hear from you. I just got back from San Diego, CA. Took a little vacation. I'm sure my way isn't the only way to do these strings. But it seems to work for me.....

    Thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions. I think I will try going into the giga editor and altering the release times. I am looking for almost a seamless gliding, like real slow strings. I really don't understand (with all due respect to the company) why they did not do this before. This is what I thought the release slider in PT was for. Currently, if you move the release time in the PT that only moves the release sample. I don't see the use in that. Who needs a release sample several ms after you release your legato line. How can that be useful? It does not sound natural. I end up leaving both times at their default. I will probably have more questions as I dive into the editor. Thanks to all...
