  • I'm sorry that I don't know this, but I think it's more than likely someone here will.

  • the melody is quite recognisable (though I don't know it myself)- isn't there some sort of online database which can recognise a tune? I think I heard about something of that nature...

    ...ok, found it:

anybody care to whistle it into their web microphone (I'm not set up to do that right now)?

  • Hello WLAHC1,

I don't know the name of this tune but I might have some sort of idea how you could find out. You wrote that you recorded the melody from the TV, so I would propose to phone the broadcast station and describe them your situation.
I'm pretty sure they will help you!
In the meantime we will try to find the name and the composer.
    Guys out there, right?
So many musical geniueses here must find out who composed this piece!
Especially in a situation like this! Who's ready to help?

I wish you all the best,
    Hans-Peter

-> My two pennies worth: Maybe this is the right chance to make A REAL MUSICAL competition with VSL. Wouldn't that be nice? One price for the guy who finds the right name of the tune (and the composer) - and one price for the guy who does the best mockup of the tune with the help of VSL samples.
That would be a competition! And don't forget: Helping other people in a situation like that can be very advantageous for a company - even for a company which produces samples.
Guys, what do you think? I know the guys at VSL have a heart of corn - now this is your challenge to prove this. Thanks for your attentive reading.

  • Sorry, I forgot that you recorded it from a video. Maybe you can describe what's the video dealing about?

  • The video i got it off of was from an old sports illustrade vdie with jothan winters. It was in a section called "masterpunt theater" the sencod part of it. its basically football bloopers tape, that they gave out years ago for a subscription. they do master punt theater and show people dropping passes and stuff, then jon talks and says in teh second part things are goign better for the players there not dropping things like they were, and then he says no for the last half, and that is when they play this pieace. I hope this helps. I have told her parents of all of you trying to help, and they thank you very much and you are all in there prayers. I have been trying to find out my self, but talking to her takes up so much time. But i apperaice you all helping out though thank you very much, i hope someoby can find this for me, well really for her. thank you all and goodluck, you are in my prayers also.

  • I'll venture a guess here: I would start with American composers from the mid- to late-20th century--it has that sort of upbeat optimism. This could be anywhere from a modernized Copeland-style score to Williams or any of his contemporaries, perhaps from just the last 20 or 30 years (it sounds like it might have been the intro for an Olypmic games, too).

(At first it sounded like it might be a typical Vangelis arrangement, but he doesn't usually maintain the illusion of a true orchestral composition for so long without doing something weird)

    I hope this helps.

You know, there's always the possibility that this is Sports Illustrated proprietary music. Sometimes sports media commissions music to "sound similar" to other tracks without actually being it. Although if it is, it's pretty good stuff. Best of luck finding it.
