    Hi all,

    1st post I think..

    With my 3.2GHZ PIV HT and 2 Gigs Ram (PC3200) and my

    Intel D875PBZLK i875P P4 800FSB with Hyper threading ON, the performance Tools do not load and appear with this error:

    "A device ID heas been used that is out of range for your system."
    The error screen locks in place but does not lock the computer..

    With Hyperthreading OFF, the Performance tool loads properly.

    My "OS is WinXP Professional

    any assistance appreciated

    Alan, I'm not a pc expert but i understand that GS and Kontact type apps on a fast computer such as yours run better with hyperthreading off so......why not just use it that way?

    Yeah, from what I understand it's not useful for what we're doing. I forget exactly how HT works, but it's a simple trick that gives a free performance boost. Something to do with calculations being done three times as fast instead of two if you split the task into two threads using different parts of the chip.

    Hi Guys,

    I'm getting a similar error when using the tool on XP Pro. So how do I shut that Hyperthreading off? I haven't found it under "settings" anywhere. Can someone walk me through this?

    i believe you turn off hyperthreading in the bios. start the computer and hold down delete (and watch your pc vanish into thin air [;)] )The bios page should show up.
    Go to advanced...cpu configuration....turn hyperthreading off.

    ok, you found me...I do concur with the faster machine. In fact when I turn Hypr Threading off of my 3.2GHZ PIV, the Performance Tools load up properly.

    BUT

    My slower machine has the issue here..It is a 1.2GHZ PIV Keep on mind that the only application on the machine is Giga. This is a Giga Machine..
    I need to run Performance tools on it ASAP.

    What I plan to do is rebuild that machine with a C: boot drive using Win XP Professional. I need to clean it out the important files before purging the HD.. I remember a few months ago how I coul not install EWQLSO on this machine due to the fact that it did not have a C: Boot drive..It's boot drive was Drive F: Native Instrument Support determined that a C: Boot Drive is mandatory to complete its registration....(Sorry for the OT guys)

    Dave,

    as Win XP boots, toggle the F2 and F8 key to get in to Set Up..then disable Hyperthreading..ESC and save..

    That's all doc..

    Thanks, I'll give that a shot. I obviously didn't have much luck holding delete as I booted. So I appreciate the rescue advice. I'm basically a MAC guy running GIGA as outboard samplers. The simplist Windows stuff esc.'s me. [*-)]

    Here goes another try on both my GIGA's,

    Hi all,

    well I rebuilt my slower Giga machine (1.3ghz) PIV and got the Performance Tools to run successfully. I am still having a problem with my 3.2ghz PIV HT. The Performance tools will not work unless you disable it.
