  • 24 bit 96KHz sample releases?

Hi, will VSL release their samples in 24/96 format in the future? I know that computing power might not be there yet, but I am wondering if that is the plan for when technology catches up? They sound great now, but would be unbelievable if playable at 24/96. I think the Symphonic Cube is slated to have 24/44.1, but 96 would make a huge difference in quality. Thanks.

  • Hello onboard!

A *huge* difference for sampled instruments? I really doubt that, if I smell sampled data I do that despite 16 or 24bit. I hope there always will be power efficient 16bit versions of all new releases, too!

Though that's just my opinion, as valid as every other.

  • Just for the record - all our data is stored in 32 bit floating / 96 kHz / stereo (... yes, Terabytes of storage-space needed), so we are ready for any new options when the time is right.

    Thanks for your interest.

Can you hear a difference from 32/96 to 16/44.1 so that we have to hope the time arrive soon or is just an idea?

  • You will defenately hear a difference! 24 bit recordings are always more transparent - especially in big orhcstra mixes this would be worth it!!!

  • We had our own proprietary down-sampling tool developed, specifically programmed for our needs and our ears ;-] , so the difference between 96 kHz and 44.1 isn't really the problem. 24 bit would be very nice, I agree - you gain depth and resolution, especially in the soft tails. - The 32 bit format is only of importance if the data is processed.

While I can't announce any actual products yet, I think it is quite clear that we plan to release our samples in 24 bit, too, when the time is right.

    All the best,

  • You've heard what you're talking about, Dietz - a distinct advantage over my just talking theoretically! - but I would have thought it would be much more important for MIR to have the higher bit resolution. Of course the samples themselves have low-level details, but the releases from recordings made in the Silent Stage are pretty subtle at best - and often they're covered up by the rest of the ensemble.

    Nicht war?

  • So the SYMPHONIC CUBE is very far from today?
Everybody here is talking about GIgastudio 3 and nobody about SYMPHONIC CUBE. Why?? Is there an idea about it?
    Sergino

  • Yes, I am also wondering why nobody talking about the Symphonic Cube.
I thought the symphonic Cube would be released at the same time as Giga 3, but there is a big silence about that now.
I also would very much like to know what is the content of the Symphonic Cube. The only thing I can see is an 'icecube' that will be delivered on 1 harddisc.
I sent VSL an e-mail with this question:

I have the pro edition, performance set and saxophones 1 on Giga format.
I want to buy some new horizon instruments: chamber strings, new solo
strings, French oboe and Wind Ensembles. But I also want to upgrade to
    the
    Symphonic Cube when it arrives.
Will the instruments above also be part of the Symphonic Cube? So will I
    be
    doubling a lot then?
In that case I should not buy the Horizon things now.
When will this Symphonic Cube be there?

    This was their answer:

To your question: the Symphonic Cube will be a modular system and will
contain all the Horizon Series, the Pro Edition content as well as new
content. There'll be a VIP pricing that will take into account all
products that you already have, so yes, it's safe to order Vienna
    Symphonic Library products now.

So I think the Symphonic Cube will be a very expensive module.
Nothing about when it will be released...

  • Gerard,

we don't have a release date for the Symphonic Cube yet.
As soon as the schedule is concrete we'll make an announcement.
