I dont know if im the only person that thinks this........but i feel in particular with the strings they were recorded too close.....thus losing alot of warmth and lushness.Also i feel the silent stage was not a plus point for the strings.Will the forthcoming mir project solve this with the direct control of mic placement.This could radically change the tonal quality of the strings?? any thoughts or ideas?

If you use the vsl strings to go(without reverb or effects) it's too close yes....But you have to work on them to make them sound more real. The sounds ARE real but if you just use the sounds dry it doesn't really sound like the real thing.
You know what I mean, it's not only the reverb but the approach on each any every note...
for example, I have a choir sound library... Some patches when you press down the keys it sounds fake because they don't hold the tone down when shifting notes(they start over on every note) instead of holding the aaaaahhh all the way until they have sung the cue trough....But I don't know yet how I make them sound more real...
The MIR project will help you with your issues with strings and also TASCAM'S Gigapulse... They both can make mic and reverb placements an etc....

When gigapulse arrives you can ask someone on this forum on what is a usual "hollywood" setup with the mics and reverbs...There is a topic on that somewhere on this forum... And I don't think Howard Shore uses any setup any different than other film composer...

I have recently downloaded the entire Pro Edition and I must say that I absolutely LOVE the detailed realism of the strings. Yes, it is a little more work to add realistic spaces to put these sounds in. But you get the best base starting point, with which you can manipulate later, with various reverbs of your choice, to mold into a variety of scenarios. I believe it is much better and far more flexible to add reverb colorations later, not have them imprinted on the samle from the begining. My opinion only.
