    WOW! Quite impressing demos!!!
    Cool!

    Maya

  • Really thank you Maya !

  • Hello Anton,

thank you for the information. With the risk of upsetting others, these are the best demonstrations of VSL I've heard so far, in my opinion.

I loved the colour and dynamics of these pieces, especially the strings in the central part of the first.

Thanks for your personal message Anton. Your'e a gentleman and a scholar.

    Bye

    Paul

  • Thank you and thanks to all people have contacted me.
    Love Vienna !

  • I find the sounds simply stunning for a library of this price. Although I would probably have balanced some things differently, it is just sounding so honest, making it possible for me to hear how I could use it for my own ideas. I think I can hear the library's flexibility in these demos [:D]

Great job, Antongiulio, Herb and the team!

    Peter

  • It's great except some of the horns that sound too "midi" like. As peter said, I would also do things different due to it's flexibility.

  • Nobody perfect...... [[;)]]

  • I like your sound. Especially the brass. The woodwinds seem to have strong attacks. Are all the straight sustained notes heavy on the attack? Or did you use a particular articulation for that? For instance, I think I never heard a Cube flute play a melody. It's always a Performance Legato tool patch that's used for reasons quite obvious. Can it be done convincingly without the Legato patches? Are the normal Opus 1 woodwinds instruments adequate enough for playing decent solo lines?
Damnit, they should have demos where a same melody is played with both the Legato patches as well as the normal Cube patches. What better way is there to demonstrate the legato tool or the repetition tool?

  • Dear Alexcremers,
when i get Opus1 i have tested for 2 days all presets.
In the meantime i have played the demo you have eared just for fun and for testing
the real capabilities. Sorry for not perfect articulations (woodwinds - clarinets attack).
I have not used performance and i can assure you that the performance presets included on Opus 1 are enough for most needs, you can also found, from the strings set to the tuba, the legato patches for playng a really impressive melody, i have found especially the trumpet so cool, never heared before! Belive me Opus 1 is the best tool at this price in the story of the musical instruments, obviously the pro-edition shure the best in the world but you pay you get.

  • Before I start, keep in mind that I am in no way qualified to really critique your orchestration or programming, since I am still among the "I want VSL" forum members. However, I do quite a bit of pro audio, recording, and mixing, so I'll come at it from that POV.

Like the toes of Nebuchadnezzar's dream-statue (pardon the Hebraic analogy [*-)] ), there are some strong points and some weak points. The strong point is the orchestration itself, I believe. The weak point is the mixing.

The brass in general (apart from a somewhat MIDIsh performance) seem far too close in the mix. In an orchestral seating arrangement, the brass will usually sit in back of the other instruments, for the obvious reason that they would otherwise be overpowering. The strings and woods should come to the foreground a bit, while the brass could be a little more subdued.

Other than that, great start, I think. I can't wait to get my hands on OPUS 1 and see that I can do.

    Hi Anton,

Well, take my remarks above with a pinch of salt. Really, great demo!

I'm just an "amateur", although a rather serious one, even having my office in a former studio room. I have built a nice set of libraries (worth some 10K euro) and have deviced to stop following new developments. It's just getting too expensive... I should now work with the stuff I have, and that covers the entire orchestra (see my website, tech page). However, I really, really am going to make an exception for the Opus 1 library this year, as well as for the Sam Solo Brass.
Demo's like this are really valuable marketing tools tools for VSL. I am sure I will post VSL demos as soon as I have the Opus 1 lib.

Thanks, also to Herb and his great team (and Wolfine [;)] )

  • Dear Galleddrim,
Thank you, i agree, but i just test the flat capabilities from Opus 1.
Just play and send all to Space Designer, no Eq no any kind of mix.

  • Bravo! [:D]

  • Some of you guys are overly critical. I think these demos are nearly flawless. And what flaws they might have concerning the mix, etc., are irrelevant.

GREAT WORK, Anton! I only wish my own skills were this good.

    rgb

  • You are too good ! Many Thanks

  • Anton, what did you add to the "midi like horns"(sorry about that rude reply) Reverbs and such...?

It's VERY good though because it's your "sound"! Antons "sound".
Unlike being John Williams "sound" or hans zimmer-ish like.

    OMG... [:O]ops:

My site is made by Deltaworks, that is, my own 1 person company [[[[:D]]]]
I am just an amateur and get my income from software design and engineering. I'm not sure if I could stand up to be a professional composer and earn a living with it - I think it would be a too hard job, especially if you have to support a family with 4 kids [*-)]

I just want to learn about composing, orchestrating and producing, just like you all.

    Thanks,

    Peter
