  • I can't open the zipped file of the samples I downloaded.

I'm a 'newby' on this forum (and with VSL) and would really appreciate if someone could help me with this problem. I have spent many hours trying to open up the sample library I downloaded a few days ago and am struggling to figure out why.

The file I downloaded is entitled: 'V91_VI_SE_Vol_1_Strings_ilok_v5', but when I try to unzip it I get the following message 'Unable to expand “SE_Volume-1_Strings_01.z”. It is in an unsupported format.'

I used the Vienna Solo Violin a few years ago on another computer (which is now non functional), have re-set up everything else on my nice new MacBook M2 Pro, converted my account from the USB Dongle license to the new iLock license manager and installed the Vienna Assistant and Vienna Ensemble service but can't work out how to unzip these files.

  • Hi Nigel!

There is nothign to unzip. Make sure you have also installed the Vienna Instruments Pro player from within the Vienna Assistant.

After that load the Vienna Instruments Pro player in your DAW, where your libraries will be listed and can be loaded.

In case you transitioned form eLicenser to iLok please be aware that you have to reinstall the Vienna Instruments player from within the Assistant, since the old one is not compatible with iLok.

  • Hi Ben,

thanks for your reply. After many more hours trying to figure out how get the SPECIAL EDITION Vol. 1 STRINGS up and running, I finally realised that VSL no longer offer this package and that I would need to upgrade to the SYNCHRON-ized SPECIAL EDITION Volume 1 in order to install and use the strings.

I paid the 30 Euros for the upgrade, now have everything installed and am back working on the project.

    All the best,

    Nigel

  • Hi Nigel,

Yes, the Upgrade makes a lot of sense - you even get some cool, free instruments. Especially considering the ~80% discount you received as existing owner of VI Special Edition Volume 1.

That is partially correct. With the switch to iLok, all users received complimentary upgrades to the VI Special Edition Volumes they already partially owned.

The misunderstanding at hand was that you downloaded only the installation files rather than clicking "INSTALL" (= download & install in one go).

    Best,
    Andreas
