  • Guy,

Did you use lower velocities for this demo? If so, do the higher velocities have a bit more high end? It sounds a lot rounder than the other VSL libraries.

Did you roll off or in any way adjust the highs? Perhaps you could comment on the making of this demo.

    Thanks,
    Jack

edit: I'm referring to the strings only demo here.

    Lovely.

Has any processing has been applied, or are these the raw sounds?

    drew,

These are the raw sounds aside from altiverb.

The main core of the appa demo is the cellos, the velo varies between 20-90, the violin goes higher in the upper melody. I didn't change the eq.

  • What I found highly interesting aside from the richer sound is having leg and porta on the same patch, this makes it very convenient to go from leg to porta back to leg.

  • Guy - are you running on a 64 bit platform? I assume the 64 bit syncrosoft driver, etc?
    THANKS.

can you do some strings alone - by each section? I'd really would like to hear the tone of the cellos.

    If you're nice.... [[;)]]

  • Guy

    Celli sound outstanding....

People don't be shy in applying liberal amounts of H-Shelving @ 9 Khz (like 6 to 8 db) on strings of VSL in general (except on Con Sords)

big boys do that all the time.....

(I really like the string piece)

    yeah [;)]

    Vienna .....great celli

For sure - really cuts through a mix.

Guy - I am always nice!!!!!

--I also love the Port and reg legato on the same patch (KS - A0/B0) Brilliant idea!!!!

(just ordered mine)---Where is it, it is not here yet

  • your Piano concerto sound like a genetik manipulation of Liszt,Bhrams and Wagner
having a party in the same SPA ! ooooo !

ok just kidding...you use the piano on is best side...i mean..sharp,snappy and
firework...but the pianissimo lack some presence..but again that piece show
your skill as a pianist and composer and the orchestration sound beefy and juicy
    hum...wow !

    keep going..you got it !

  • Great job on both of these demo's guy - the Appa strings one is my favourite!

I think this demo showcases the piano much better than the classical pieces I don't know why, I find this much more interesting to listen to than the moonlight or mozart - perhaps there is more freedom in your performance on original pieces?? I've said that before I know and not as a critisism... but the piano sounds brilliant here. This really is a great piano sound you know - quite astounding, I would go so far as to say, from my experience (and I havne't heard all possible sampled pianos out there) as a classical instrument, this is the best piano I've heard ever - and naturally true to it's intention it blends perfectly with the rest of the VSL library... cool! It really sounds like a recording but still has that studio gloss on the attacks as well and sits inside reverb perfectly - and there is a real depth in the image too which I think is coming from the piano not the reverb. So congrats Guy for the demo and VSL for the piano and instruments. The Appa strings are especially hollywood aren't they (in the best sense). Great!

    Miklos.

  • Thanks Miklos for your usual generous compliments, it's always a pleasure to hear positive feedback like that and I'll take it any day, even Sundays! [;)]

  • Guy sent us the final version of his official Appassionata Strings demo.
    It's divided into three parts.
First one is a slightly revised version of the previous April Farewell demo.
Second part features a lot of different articulations, and the third part is based on clusters and random pizzicato effects.

    Sunset, Dream and Nightmare!

    The second demo
    Anaheim Appassionatas
    http://vsl.co.at/Player2.aspx?Lang=13&DemoId=4992

was our official demo at NAMM show, composed by Christian Kardeis.
It features the Appassionata Strings with orchestral accompainement.
This demo was featured at the show running live as midifile in Logic on one computer.

Thanks a lot Guy and Christian!

  • that midifile would sure be interesting to see [:)]

  • Wow this new demo - Anaheim will sell hundreds of copies for you. Just installing mine now - can't wait.

    --where's my epic trumpets!!!!!!!!!

    Rob

  • Were both standard and extended used on those demos? 50/50? I would like to know please?!

Best strings i ever heard. Obviously! [:D]

  • Man you are good at that nightmare stuff Guy but I really loved the first two movements even more.

Christian - what a great demo! I really enjoyed this one also, both of these really exciting love the mixes a lot and wow the library sounds GREAT!

All the Best both of you,
    Miklos.

  • Excellent demo, both!

Christian, are u using exclusively AP strings all over the place?

Was this demo performed on a single computer?

    Thks,

    Iván

  • Listened to both of these demos again - It never ceases to amaze me of the level of skill that Guy, Christian, Jay and so many others put into these demos.

This latest release of AP is just one more confirmation that I decided on the right orchestral library 2-3 years ago. Thanks to all at VSL for such and nice product and retaining the skills of these demo makers to show off your products accurately and honestly.

    Rob

  • Now, now Rob - too much talk, too little cellos...

You know I would have made you something by now [;)]

I think my AP will arrive monday or thuesday.
