  • Wow Jay - I really don't like saxes (especially samples) and this made me a believer (listening to the first Debussy piece now)!!! Wonderful as usual. Thanks for all your hard work.

    (how did you alter the vibrato on the static sax samples - use dynamic patches, etc.?)

  • Delicious-- thanks not only for completing the sax collection, but for choosing the Debussy work for the demo-- great piece.

    The alto sax, especially, really gives the Cube a very important element characteristic of early-to-mid 20th century orchestra music. It's really beautifully done. Thanks and congratulations.

    Okay, so with 5 new collections plus with the Vienna Chorus on the way, this increases the VI set by a modest 50-60%.

    I've been really busy and haven't been able to follow all the forum topics recently. Is this new Saxophone package ready for purchase yet? I don't see it on the discount calculator.

    it doesn't show up in the discount calculator yet (mainly because it does not belong to the symphonic cube) but you can see discounts on the saxophones product page if you login from there

    Rob- the vibrato is built into the samples but just like the solo strings, the saxes have several vibrato variations to choose from including non-vibrato, progressive vibrato and regular vibrato.

    One thing that I've been using more and more with the brass and especially the saxophones is the filter control. I often choose an articulation with a timbre at the loudest end of the dynamic range for a given phrase and then I "sculpt" the sound by continuously varying the filter cutoff frequency. It's often much smoother than simply switching to another velocity layer. Try it, you'll like it.

  • I posted the following at northernsounds as well, so Jay you only have to reply to one [:)] I thought it would be good to also post it here as feedback for the VSL team...

    WOW WOW WOW!! I'm a classical saxophone/media composition major at CSUN, and after I heard the first sax line, I was BLOWN AWAY!! This sounds EXTREAMLY real AND MUSICAL. Had I not known this was VSL playing, I would have thought this was someones performance. AMAZING!!

    Now I have to ask, how much of this demo is the "standard library" vs the "extended library" because I may have to buy this one! (may be hard on a student budget to get both libs though) Was it difficult to program the piece? What reverb did you use? Was the rest of the orchestra VSL VI too? Did you have to realize the orchestra seperate from the Sax and/or use freeze features due to system requirements?

    I've never been happy with any saxophone samples I've heard until now. Bravo VSL and Jay! WOW!!!

    i´m a saxophone player by myself, never heard a sampled sound such as realistic and smooth like this ...
    btw, very good demo programming!

    i prefer old american saxophones like king super 20 ...
    but this sounds like the gentle ones, a buescher or conn

    perhaps someone finds time to programm a sax arrangement of sigurd m. rascher ...

    Filter already programmed into my 'right footpedal' [:D] -- couldn't live without filter control for WW's and Brass. Having filter to taper off the end of a phrase just sounds terrific in so many cases (flitters away to nothing - greatly approaching how a real player would play it with sensitivity.)

    --Please do so more sax demos - never thought I would even be interested in this library but..... [[;)]]
