  • Why isn't the VI multi-timbral?

Maybe this has been answered here before but a search did not bring anyhing up.

Just wondering why the VI is'nt 8 or 16 part multi-timbral.

Seems like its a waste of computer resources to have to open an instance for every instrument.

I just can't think of a good reason why its not setup this way.

Maybe the underlying architecture does not allow for it.

I feel this is a drawback and rather limiting.

Can anyone explain this and, is multi-timbrality in the works for a future update?

    Thanks,

  • dragon33, in case i'm understanding the term *multi-timbral* in the same way like you and considering that i don't have too mich in-depth knowledge of the underlying algorythms the reason is to be found in the performance detection itself (when to switch to a different sample layer depending on the playing style).
also usually you would *feed* the VI from one track per instrument, but i've heard comments that such a feature would make sense (and probably be possible) for the percussion library - but this is just an idea so far and in the category *wishlist*

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.

    Hi Christian,

    Thanks for your reply!

I should have made my question more clear.

What I meant by multi-timbral is that I wish that the VI had 8 or 16 "containers", each one assigned to its own midi channel. Then you can load a Preset, Matrix, or Patch in any of those containers.

You would then only have to initiate 1 instance of the VI and get 8 or 16 midi channels, each one with its own Preset, Matrix, or Patch.

They could even leave the GUI as it is. Just add buttons 1-16 representing midi chanels, accross the top, side, or in the middle.

    Regards,
