  • Nagging Problem with Legato Tool

I have two giga systems running windows 98. Ocassionally when playing notes with the legato tool they will become stuck, sustaining until the sample dies. The only way to end this behavior is to close and reopen the legato tool. I've experiened this sequencing with both Cubase and Logic-initially I thought I might be sending giga some wierd midi data. Are there any solutions or bug fixes?

    Thanks,

    Colin

  • hi colin, ahead please make sure you're running version 1.1 of the tool (click on the icon of the title-bar and select info) - this is the current version downloadable in the user-area.
i don't know if this applies to you, but there are known problems, if you're sending chase-events - occasionally turn them off.
also i would recommend to run GS 2.5.4, at least 2.5.35 - they fixed some issues in the current versions

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Well I have the same problem from time to time, although it is version 1.1 on XP pro running. The leg tool seems to be hanging (long sustain on every midi send note).

After closing and re-opening the tool, it works fine again.

Could be after saving a project to Cubase SX...???

  • I experienced sometimes this problem too. Actually I work on a projet who needs to use a lot of legato. The problem seems for me to appear when I use too much legato patches on a midi port. To avoid these "kind of release midi error" I split my legato patches on another midi port and it works well .Currently I use 3 midi port on 1 gigastudio for this projet and I work with Nuendo 1.61 and Windows XP pro. Generally problems appear when I use more than 6-7 legato tool on 1 midi port.

  • Sorry !!!!
I forgot to say hat I'm using version 1.1 of the performance tool

  • It seems, that 7 perf-legati on one port are the limit for the performance tool at the moment.
    We'll work on it.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • I am glad to hear that, Herb!

Thanks a lot again for the outstanding support!

I have seen this too, and as far as I can tell the cause for the problem is that one note-off is missing on the channel. That is, if you send a note-on on a legato instrument and omit to send a corresponding note-off the entire channel only plays sustained notes after that.

I have found two other workarounds in addition to restarting the entire tool.

    1. Set the offending channel to Thru and then back to Legato in the perf tool.

    2. Find a way of sending just a midi note-off on the channel (without a note-on!). In Sonar I can do this by selecting an adjacent track, press a note on the keyboard, shift to the right track and finally release the key. Obviously the "starting" track can't be a legato track... This is by far the quickest way of getting the perf tool in order I have found so far.

  • I just have an icon of my current perf setup on the desktop. Two clicks I shut the tool down and relaunch it.
