    Hi all,


    I'm working on my Autoload....and am now at the Bass Drum (Gran Cassa) ....

    Ok........I've got a big ole' plate verb on the Bass Drum (and of course I made sure that the plate does NOT have low-end to avoid mud)

    Now ..........let's talk EQing the Gran Cassa.......

    Mind you I EQ very little on Orchestra....(usually pull down about 3.0db at 375Hz with a broad q on the Stereo Buss, since mid-buildup gets a bit much and this makes things alot more clear........so subtractive EQing)

    However the Gran Cassa is a special case and for modern scoring low-end is a big deal.......

    Anyone care to share some Eq curves and Dynamic processing techniques of the Gran Cassa...

    I'm thinking along the lines of a hyped low-end....like Howard Shore in "Copland"
    It is eluding me....rrrrrrrrr


    Here is the curve I have going on the Gran Cassa:

    104 Hz +5db Q 4.0
    290 Hz -9db Q 2.60
    4650 Hz +7db Q 2.0 (hi shelving)

    It's there but not quite...

    Is that simply a very pppp Gran Cassa...sitting high in the mix?.......But the clean boominess is eluding me with EQ..


    thoughts anyone ?

    It sounds like the drum is out of tune with itself in the example you gave. the decay of the drum sounds "wobbly" mabe that is adding a richness your missing. Also the reverb is Huge and warm. I like it! Mabe try using two drums that have the same basic sound but slightly different pitch. You may want to put some of that low end back into the reverb as well.

    I'll try that..........that would introduce "beating" (2 drums out of tune ) might be just the ticket......

    "Richness" that is the word I was looking for.........the low-end on that drum is magnificent.........I am convinced that it is a Timp AND Cassa at ppp high in the mix........I will now try the "Out of Tune" thing....

    Nimm eine "Mittelohr-Pauke".

    Eine Mittelohr-Pauke verstärkt den Druck am großen Trommelfell zu einer stärkeren Druckwelle am kleinen Pauken-Ausgang. Entscheidend ist das Flächenverhältnis zwischen Trommelfell und Pauken-Öffnung! Bei einem Flächenverhältnisses von 1: 20 kann dieser daher eine große Kraft entfalten. Nur so kann eine Wasserschwingung im Innenohr ohne Übertragungsverluste erzeugt werden.

    Ob das allerdings auch bei einer Aufnahme funktioniert hab ich noch nicht ausprobiert, wäre aber trotzdem interessant für live.
