    In all honesty I don't think it makes much difference which one you use, as long as you dial it in right.

    well, it's quite a difference from plug to plug, the Spectralizer from Steinberg is my favorit. Also have two very old hardware units Aphex Aural Exciter

    I used to have Spectralizer, Aphex, there's one in Logic, I've owned the SPL box and Aphex Big Bottom (which if I remember right had it built in) - to me they all sound the same. But I use them in very small doses, and very rarely.

    In all honesty I've never A/B-ed exciters, but you use so little of the effect that it's really only a matter of whether the plug-in passes the dry signal cleanly. I'm sure they all sound different, but with the exception of the old BBE from the '80s (which sounds like harsh eq), they all add a little high-end distortion to the signal.

    So I'm sure you're right, but the only things I've ever used exciters on have been horribly messed-up to start with - beyond the point where it makes a difference what plug-in I used.

    And I'll have the room enlarged so I can accommodate those speakers. Thanks. [:)]

    them out tomorrow, and apply instead spectralizing, it's much
    more near the reality of the market and what speakers people
