    Hello, I'm planning on purchasing software which houses a sequencer and various editing and mixing tools.

    The Steinberg products look very appealing, but do confuse me somewhat.
    There's Nuendo for media production (could come in handy for scoring visual projects like film or tv), and for music production there's various editions of Cubase.

    Which app are you running? Which one can you advice?
    Maybe you have something else which is worth considering.

    I believe bith ProTools and Logic are Mac based. I have windows XP.

    Currently I'm working with Cool Edit (nowadays named Adobe Audition).

    You can use PT on a PC and it works very well. However, the MIDI side of it is very much behind the audio (and most other sequencers) and has no notation ability, so it may not be what you are looking for.

    Cubase SX is an excellent program and is used by many A list professionals for scoring to picture. Nuendo has all the same features but has many others that are used for Post Production. I would suggest hanging out at the Nuendo forum (and Nuendo Post) to see what it could do for you. There is very little that PT can do that Nuendo can't, whereas the reverse is not true. I'm very happy with N3 and have only had a few crashes related to 3rd party plugins (K2). Needless to say that I don't use those any more...! [:D]

    Thanks DG! So you're saying that Nuendo is essentially the same as Cubase, but adds on post-production...?

    For notation I currently use Sibelius and like to keep using it in addtition to whatever sequencer I will buy. Can Sibelius 'converse' with Nuendo and vice versa?

    No. You have to use a MIDI file. However, if you prepare the MIDI export properly it doesn't take that long to clean up. I have often thought that it would be great to have a Sibelius plugin for Cubendo, but for that to happen Steinberg would have to admit that the notation aspects of their program are cr*p. Never gonna happen..... [:(]
