Hello all,
I have Opus 1/2, but have found it very difficult to get a good legato sound with the strings. The performance legatos, as I've seen others comment on this forum, are really sub par. My understanding is that this is because of the limited number of articulations or sampling that you get with the strings in Opus as compared to Pro Edition. I've tried the Beat Kaufmann techniques, but am really hampered by the lack of fast attack sus samples, for example.
I want to upgrade, and wanted to solicit advice as to the best strategy. Chamber Strings full library seems like one option, and I've seen that users have layered these sounds with the larger ensemble samples from the Pro Edition. Do you think that would work with Opus strings?
Full library Orchestral Strings I and II would be very expensive. Is there any point in getting the standard libraries? I'd hate to buy something and find myself short of crucial articulations, as in Opus, especially if the performance detection in VI would depend on having the full library to sound good. It seems that it might be more cost effective to even mix and match with other sample sets such as EWQL gold/gold xp, the new Siedlaczek String Essentials, or something.
I'd love to hear advice from anyone, especially if you've shared my experience with Opus strings and have upgraded to something you are happy with.
