  • 64 Vienna Instruments demos online

I'm very happy to announce our first package of Vienna Instrument demos.
    You find the demos here:

    http://www.vsl.co.at/en-us/65/71/248.vsl

For all demos done by Christian Kardeis you can download midifiles and preset files (AU and VST version). Christian peformed all demos under "live performance conditions" to proof and present the flexibilty and ease of use of the Vienna Instruments.

Thanks a lot Christian, Jay and Beat.

    best
    Herb

PS: don't miss the Zapateado (Solo violin) and the full orchestrated Meditation performed Jay Bacal.

  • Just listened to Zapateado on a G4 laptop not quality monitoring but, hey, that sounded sensational!

    congratulations Herb, VSL and Jay.

    Julian

  • Herb, The 64 VI demos are not playing!

  • Of course Jay and Beat's demos are what we would expect - outstanding!

Christian's demo and tutorials is simply the most informative thing I have seen on the site since day 1. Way to save me days and days of trial and error!!!!

These naked demos are so useful and UNLESS you are VSL - you would never DARE these [:D]

Our clients are in for a treat!!!

All are incredible but the Chamber strings (divisi and triple octaves) will give so many of us 'that sound' I think we are looking for. The appassinato strings will just be icing on the cake (sorry for sounding like a commercial - I paid for every beautiful VSL library I own!!!)

  • That fact that Christian played all his demos LIVE [[[:|]]] is impressive, inspiring and frankly humbling. I wish I had his "chops." If I could play that well live I could be 100x more productive!

Some of my favorite of Christian 64 [[[:|]]] demos include:

    String-Trio harmonics
    C-Strings universal-mode (first half)
    Orch-Strings short-staccati
    Orch-Strings harsh-repetitions
    Flute arpeggio-mordents
    Woodwinds solo-quartett
    KL-3 universal-mode

    Exciting times lie ahead!

Beat-- it's always an honor to be on the same page with you! Well done, too.

    Best,
    Jay

I love your Meditation - now with the added orchestra - fantastic once more!

    Hi
Below you have the possibilty to download a PDF with all the articulations I used for the solo violin...
    ______________________________________________________________

    Danza Violin
    Download:
    Sequenzer’s Editor Screen Shot
    Midifile SoloViolin

    Mozart Rondo
    Download:
    Sequenzer’s Editor Screen Shot
    MidiFile SoloViolin
    ______________________________________________________________

Here is a PDF-document with all the used samples for every piece:
    PDF Used Samples

As you can see I’ve used quite a lot of different samples.
This needs to oranize the samples very well.
Further on: If you use so much different sample-types like I did it is not easy to change between all of them while you are playing the melody.
(Unfortunately I have not the ability of Christian... [[;)]] )
See the picture with the main Keyswitches by clicking...
Vienna Instrument: Loaded Samples for the Demos (*.gif)

So I organized to change between the different samples and parameters
by Keyswitches (Key on Keybord). By the way: You are able to use
    pitchwheel or midi controllers too.
It was very important to write down my settings... to keep track of all the
    different keyswitches.
    PDF about my Keyswitch-Settings:

    ______________________________________________________________

To keep it all together: Here are the demos once more...
    Danza Violin mp3
    Mozart Rondo excerpt mp3
    ______________________________________________________________

    Not on VSL Demo-Page...
    Nice Meeting
    Download:
    Sequenzer’s Editor Screen Shot
    MidiFile SoloViolin
    And the mp3 file:
    Nice Meeting mp3

    Have fun

Finally I would like to thank you - Herb and all your helpers -for this new
Instrument(s). This invention has been another great success for you.
    And for us?
This instruments will be "another thousands of happy hours", which are prepaired
    to use them - I'm sure. [:D]

  • Really impressive....great work!

  • I'm working my way though the tutorials at the moment. Just a couple of comments so far:

I was unable to download all the tutorials; some of them don't seem to exist yet!

I have also tried out the VL-14 demo pre-set in order to re-create what Christian has done. In the VL-14 muted demo he uses a repeated note patch. I can see it loaded in the Matrix, the keyswitch is in the MIDI file, but nothing happens when the keyswitch is played. It still stays on the legato patch, and so sounds weird. Could I have changed some system setting that will have stopped this preset working, or is there a problem in the preset?

I would also like some information about the use of Breath Controllers, as it seems that the Velocity Crossfade is done using this method. I have no experience of using one, but it would certainly free up a few fingers! Maybe there could be a separate "sticky" to explain how they work mentioning things like sensitivity, what happens when you breath etc.

  • I found two bad links for the tutorials:

    VA piano-portamento - zigane
    VI-14 universal-mode 1

    both are fixed

regarding preset file I'll ask Christian Kardeis for checking.
Do you use the AU or the VST version?

  • Still can't get the 64 VI demos to play!!! Is there something I should be doing other than clicking on the "play" arrow???

  • The "play" button opens a popup, where you can choose to start a mp3 player or download the mp3 to your computer, and for most demos also tutorial datas for download.

  • For those that are interested, I managed to use the tutorials for Orchestral Strings Universal I & II on a single PC with 2GB RAM. It left about 65MB of RAM free but still played ok.

Saying that though I must complement the VSL team on the RAM Save feature. After using it on the 5 tracks the total memory usage went down from approx 1.2GB to about 9MB! Now that's what I call optimisation [[;)]]

  • The Woodwinds BA-3 universal-mode tutorial download is linked to the mp3 instead.

please make sure you don't have any popup-blocker active at least for vsl.co.at. in IE you could click on the information bar on the top of the browserwindow and select *allow popups from this website* - be assured we don't use any advertising popups [;)]

Thanks CM! Demos seem to work now. I must have inadvertantly blocked. The demos are Fantastic! Look forward to more of the extended pieces, i.e. "Meditation". Thanks again.

    Fixed now. Thanks Herb.

  • These demos are really great - well done and thanks.
Particularly useful are all of Christian Kardeis' packages with settings files.

One thing: Is it possible to add the tempi indications to the windows that open for each link? When I drag the midi files into Logic, I always get whatever tempo is set at the time.

I have also re-named the .aupreset files (most were just called "demo preset") and they now live in my VI user presets folder. Great for future reference.

    Thanks and regards - Colin
