  • Thanks for getting that straight, Timkiel.

  • HI there,

As I said, I have a lot of Voxengo plugs so I am sure that PS should be quite good (and get me through the non-MIR times ahead [:'(]

BUT W2 sounds really good as well. I'll try both demos. W2 is about 33% more in cost - just wanted to see from opinions here WHY? That much better?

Any comparison from any here would be helpful of PS and W2.

  • W2 comes with quite a few very nice impulses (concert hall, opera house, philharmonic, recording stage, etc.). There are also tons of digital (non-convolution) presets. And there are some presets that use a combination of convolution and digital algorithms.

Pristine Spaces also sounds nice but does not come bundled with impulses. So if you go this route you will also have to invest in some quality IR's from other sources.

    Best,
    Jay

  • Thanks Jay. I like the way you make your 'string' mixes sound. If there is a little bit of edginess to the VSL strings it seems that the W2 'rounds off' this when needed. Have you done this deliberately? If so, I like the W2 solution.

  • Recently I used Wizooverb's W2 (2 different IR's) on Sarasate's Zapateado and Massenet's Meditation. I used GigaPulse on Prokofiev's 2nd Violin Concerto. I find that W2 can be sweeter and softer on strings than GigaPulse. However, GigaPulse often does a better job (my opinion) on creating depth, and I love that way Gigapulse's large hall IR makes french horns sound.

Hopefully MIR will provide the best of both worlds. I would also love it if AudioEase decided to port Altiverb over to the PC as I'm consistently impressed by the Altiverb sound.

    Best,
    Jay

  • Frankly, I was more than a little miffed that Tascam never offered any discount to Gigastudio owners for the VST version of Gigapulse. Baffling really. Maybe someday they will. If you find out, let me know.

Well the MAC version is quite cheap, and we all know that MAC users like to spend money, so I'm sure that the PC version will almost be a giveaway [8-)]

  • Dietz -

Try the W2 demo. To my ears this is a cut above even GP! No metallic tails, really quite nice - except of course for the every 25 sec beep. Almost worth $250 to get rid of that?

Anyone else tried this one out. I think I would buy it just for vocal tracks - really very smooth.
