  • Networking issues

    Hello all

Have loaded up all the string instruments so far, and I'm starting to try and play them!

    Computer with VI is an AMD Athlon64 3700 / 2gig ram / 256M graphics
VI is on a USB2 external drive

    Sequencer computer is P4 3.07Ghz/1G ram / Nuendo / HDSP 9652 Hammerfall

Initially, I just ran a Firewire 800 off the VI as a standalone, played MIDI into the FW and listened to audio output on main outs.
This is working ok, but I can't route the audio out, nor can I specify a MIDI channel for multiple instances of the standalone.

Ok, tried FX Teleport from the Nuendo comp as host to the VI as server

I can connect them ok, and get back audio to the host, but the latency is up at 1536/2048 samples [which is slow], and Im still getting multiple pops.

Also, after three instances of the plug-in, the VI server tells me "there are not enough GDI resources to draw the interface", and it remains blank

TO be frank, I'm not too familiar with networking, and may well be doing something wrong [Both conmputers are connected to a router/Wireless ADSL]

I think I would prefer a setup whereby I could run MIDI into the VI computer, and route audio directly from it [through the Firewire or other audio interface] to my desk.

What software would I need to achieve this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • andy, a shot into the blue ... you have tweaked your system following some of the numerous instructions available on the net?
the message "there are not enough GDI resources to draw the interface" usually appears if the default settings for memory usage have been changed in the registry and so you run short (as it says) with GDI ressources.
if i'm right i'd try to use some less agressive settings

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks for your reply Christian

The PC is new, nothing tweaked - Windows XP Home SP2 [AMD Athlon64 3700 2G ram]

As a further test, I tried loading as many standalone instances of VI as I could - I got to six, then on the seventh the windows start flashing - like focus is switching through all six windows - and clicking the exe wont fire any more.
    Windows continue to flash

    Performance options -

    Visual FX
"Let Windows choose whats best" selected

    Processor Scheduling - Programs selected

Virtual memory - system managed size

Anything else you can think of??

  • OK ..... On the slave in the FX teleport window you will see a little "edit" button next to each instance. If they are white this means that the instrument window is open. You should click all of them to close all windows, and then when you need to load something or change something on a particular instance you just click edit button, and the window pops up. This way you don't have loads of windows hanging around, and you won't get the GUI error message.

  • Thanks, DG

    That solves the graphics question.....

Now just the popping audio and latency issues....

Anyone using a PC Master/Slave setup with FX Teleport [or MOL]?

What specs on the 'puters and what instances of VI

    Best

  • OK, next thing; how fast is your network, also what kind of router? Routers are usually a "No,No" for Teleport. You can use a cross-over cable if you only have 2 PCs, if you have more you must use a switch.
