  • Strange issue in Cubase SX/Nuendo

I know this may not be the right place to post this question, but... here is the problem..

Does anyone who uses Cubase SX/Nuendo have this problem of the video thumbnail track to be color shaded? I did not use to have this problem until couple months ago and I have found no solution.
I have reinstalled Nuendo many times with no success. I can change the shade color to anything, but I can't make it transparent anymore.

    thanks

For my money, I have never like the way SX 'responds' when I have the Thumbnails - I always import with 'thumbnails' unchecked - SX (at least) operates so much smoother. With a dedicated 3 rd monitor knowing where I am at has never been a problem.

  • Ill probably get an external monitor to view the videos.

I narrowed the problem down to only happening when I use the quicktime player in SX other than Directshow or Video For Windows. Opening any kind of file with quicktime in sx will give me that shaded color. I went back to quicktime 6.5 and the problem still persists.

  • Yes, most of what I do is working with AVI files shown in Direct Show - very rock solid.

    Good luck.

QuickTime on PC is absolute pants [[:|]]

My suggestion would be to use QuickTime Alternative, check the "don't launch QuickTime box" (if it exists in SX3) and then play everything through Direct Show.

Another thing that you can do is convert to AVI using something like Rad Video Tools.

  • I just tried Quicktime Alternative and it's great, except the problem still persists. If I check "Don't launch Quicktime on Start", the video will be unplayable and I won't be even be able to see the video track. [:(] It is so strange as .mov files used to work very well!
I'm going to try to convert the .mov to .avi.

  • You gave us no details, Chemicalseb - I assume you use two monitors. Are you by any chance experiencing the graphical problem you described on the secondary screen (i.e. not the startup-screen)?.

I don't understand this. If I don't check "Don't launch QuickTime on Start", QT Alt is very unreliable. If I do check it the video plays fine. QT gets in the way, and you have to stop it loading. I have also noticed that there can be a problem if QT is included in the start-up menu.

  • Sorry about missing out some details.
I only have one screen. The problem ONLY affects the video track thumbnail view. The video preview window works perfectly. It is only the thumbnail view that gets shaded when using quicktime as player.
It's like cubase was handling the color of the video thumbnail just like it would handle the color of a regular midi track. It puts a color shade on top of the thumbnails.

As far as loading .mov files. I have to have quicktime load when cubase loads, or else I will not be able to load quicktime files into cubase.
Quicktime alternative made it possible for cubase to play the .mov file using the DirectShow Video player. However, the thumbnail still gets shaded.

This is very very very strange...
Here are two screenshots of the problem:

(one is shaded with default color, and the other is shaded with blue, i can change the color of the shade by changing the track color, but there is NO way of make it transparent to have no shade)
