  • New composition by Kevin Kliesch

I'm proud to present the second Demo by Kevin Kliesch.
This time an original score by Kevin, a wonderful lyric piece.

    Thanks a lot, Kevin

    Kevin on "Amy's Theme":

I used the performance set mostly, but I also used some cube instruments
to extend held notes when they faded away with the performance set. The
only non-VSL instruments were the piano (Gigapiano), alto flute
    (Miroslav) and windchime (London Percussion).

I originally wrote the opening and closing cello melody for a solo
cello, but since one was not available, I used the perf-leg_p version
    instead.

    Enjoy,
    Kevin Kliesch

  • Haunting. Did you EQ the high strings at the start? They sound great. I like nicely mixed 6 note piano figure (8 notes at one point). It will be nice to get a French oboe in the update since the Vienna oboe, to me, sounds a bit unreal. This may be because my non-Viennese ears expect the French sound which, I believe, is less bright with more vibrato. Anyway, nice composition Kevin.

  • Thanks to all for the nice compliments!

csduke: no eq was used on the violins, although I put a slight boost on the basses. I recorded each instrument track to ProTools and then mixed from there. It gave me much greater flexibility than a simple MIDI mix. I also agree with your oboe statement: When I programmed the piece, I was really looking for the French vibrato. Since none was available at the time (without going outside the library), I used the legato Vienna oboe, which suited me fine at the time. I will probably go back an put in the French oboe once the Pro edition comes out. I will also add the solo cello, which herb and I talked about adding (he offered to re-sequence my piece with the beta version of the legato solo cello, but he had more pressing matters to attend to, such as the completion of the Pro edition).
