  • Micro Intervals

    Hi!

I've tried to use the feature in Dorico using its accidentals (tonality set for 24-EDO, Gould arrows) for micro intervals. However, it seems that it doesn't affect the playback; altered naturals plays as ordinary minor half steps. How do I fix this?

  • And why is the pitch altered in general when you compare it to a stand alone loaded patch? (Try it by having both Dorico and Synchron Player stand alone and play it on the midi keyboard - it differs almost a semitone!)

  • Sorry for that second post - it was wrong when I checked it up, playing a little earlier in the piece I'm working on.

  • Alas, after watching this Dorico tutorial https://www.youtube.com/live/QGQ0eq8fhRU?si=zHXoxKS7iyjCcvTR&t=902 is the explanation of how it doesn't playback micro interval that Synchron Player is not VST3, which I believed?

I haven't tried this with VSL before, but the playback with microtones can be achieved with either VST2 or VST3. In VST2 the method used is almost not implemented by any vendors - I believe NotePerformer is the only exception that supports it.

For VST3, the method for playback of microtones should be more broadly supported by any VST3 instrument that supports note expression for detuning. However, not all VST3 plugins will do this. So the plugin being VST3 makes it more likely that it will playback microtones, but it isn't a guarantee by itself.

  • I wish there will be an answer to this from the VSL-staff - how to obtain micro intervals together with Dorico?

  • You will likely get a faster response on this by emailing VSL support.

@mducharme is correct. This is a forum for users who want to talk to others. It is not an official support channel. 🙂 We have replied to your support ticket.
