  • Sound Variations in Studio One appear to fail with the new Synchron

Running Windows 10, the latest Studio One, the latest Synchron player with Prime and a few other VSL products.

I discovered this when attempting to load a sound variation from Babylon Waves articulation mappings, which I have used previously without issues. Essentially whenever I try to load a Studio One variation with a Synchron player track, I get a popup dialog that says:

"This preset was generated for "Unknown" and does not match the target instrument."

The Babylon Waves files still work fine in other products, and the popup dialog is a new thing I've never seen before. In theory even if for some reason the mapping has changed it shouldn't do that. If the mapping has changed, it typically works since a mapping is still a mapping, even if you don't get the results you expect.

I'm doing this outside of Flow and it happens even with non-Prime VSL instruments, so it appears related to Synchron.

If I can provide any other information please let me know.

    Thanks

    J.C.

  • A few days ago I had problems with Sound Variations for VSL instruments not populating, but it turned out I was inadvertently using the VST version of the Synchron Player. Once I loaded the VST version, things worked like they had been working since Sound Variations were implemented.

HOWEVER, for me today even the (confirmed) VST3 version is not populating Sound Variations for VSL instruments. I am posting this at the risk of looking like an idiot again. All software, both Studio One and VSL are current versions. Look, I assume I'm missing something again, but just in case ...

It's important to me because I had started a fresh loading of all current factory instrument presets and saving their keyswitch files under my own naming convention. Right in the middle of this, I suddenly can't load any.

Here's the weird thing. The exact same setup as worked yesterday (making sure I was using the VST 3 Synchron Player) is not working for me today.

    1. Create new Studio One instrument track with instance of VST3 Synchron Player (no VE Pro)
    2. Load VSL instrument
    3. Open Sound Variations (using wrench icon). Nothing there.
    4. Try another instrument
    5. Nothing there

Yesterday, do 1 and 2, do 3 and Sound Variations populated automatically. Now I can't even take some extra step to initiate loading SV's.

I've done this several times before, so it's not like I have no idea what I'm doing (except for my oversight a few days ago).

I'm prepared to accept the fact that I may have again overlooked something. If someone else can confirm this is working for them as normal. In which case I will accept the moniker of "Dufus Of The Year."

  • I can confirm sound variations in Studio One 6 are not working after the Prime Flow update. They're totally missing, with no ability to add custom ones.

  • Thanks for checking and confirming, JohnCharlie. We'll see if other are experiencing the same thing.

  • Same here. Dang. Just tried this with the new Synchron Player after the Flow update.. No joy on grabbing the keysets from the instruments.

Thanks for adding your report, Karmand.

When VSL announced the new capability of auto-populating Sound Variations a few years ago, it triggered me to check out and eventually buy Studio One. For me to use SO, I need that feature to be working. Hopefully this will get figured out and solved soon.

That's interesting. I'm on a Windows 10 PC, where VST3 Synchron Player does not work at this point. Could be something specific to windows. I'll continue to hope people will chime in if SO Sound Variations are working for them as they always have in a PC environment, current versions of SO and Synchron Player (with Flow Mode). If so, it's a local problem. If not ...

  • Okay, so it turns out that if one switches to Flow mode auto-population of SV's do work. It is only in Precision mode that it does not work. W 10 here.

I can confirm. ALL SV are lost, only when switching to Prime Flow does it work.

Now, this is crucial. Is there any chance of a roll back? I've just bought a bunch of SYNCHRON-ized instruments and I'm in desperate need of getting a fix for this.

Studio One Pro 6 (latest) on Windows 11.

Edit: Rolling back to 1.3.1577 worked, Sound Variations back!

  • Yea, just tried again:

    S1 6.6.1

    MacOS 12.7.6

Syncron set up with Prime Woods - Tried the Flute, Oboe - No Joy

Then I switched the Oboe to FLOW - then it auto populated the Oboe...

THEN! I switched to Horn a6 - No joy loading SV .... switched to FLOW - it auto populated, BUT the longs did not play if I choose them, only the Universal and the shorts played.

THEN! Back to Flute... Loaded in normal - no joy, no auto load - then switch to FLOW - loads in SVs BUT! The patch Universal does not play, choosing all the others work, the Stay, Port, Long - but the Universal does not work.

So I hope that helps VSL in seeing what's happening here... @ben? @paul

    ???

  • Same problem here. S1 6.6.2

    Mac OS 14.6.1

Latest version of Synchron Player VST3

None of my VSL libraries (BBO, Synchronized SE, etc) show ANY Sound Variations in studio one.

    I am baffled.

    ???

  • No comment from VSL?

    Hi all

Sorry for causing inconvienience. We can reproduce this problem and are already working on it, and I hope to have this fixed quickly. In the meantime you can Rollback to Player Version 1577 (which does not have the Flow Support yet, and also might cause Problems with the new Compressed Prie Content)

    Best regards

    Gabriel

  • Thanks for the heads up.

I think this is the first "major" bug that I've come across since my first Vienna purchase back in 2009.

You have a great track record, thanks again!

    /Thomas

  • Reporting back here for the Studio One 6

I loaded up this in a few ways.

Bottom line: CRASH - totally drops off. Loaded up Flute 2 - on a separate track. Loaded in SVs, switched to FLOW, it refreshed the SVs correctly.

What did not work was keyboard switching. Pressing keys on keyboard to switch articulations.

What crashed it was to switch back to the regular version and to try the keyboard switches there... press a key and crash, S1 disappears.

Second test...in VEP7 - loaded up the patch, it does not load the SVs... probably usual, but then does not respond to Keyboard switches. Programming them with S1 in a region works.

    my 2 cents

Hello all and thanks for reporting this!

Please keep the Community updated about this issue as this is a big one!

    I have not updated yet.

As long as this issue exists it is also not possible to purchase something new… as new products are forcing us to update usually.

    Again: Thanks!

  • Just updated to the new update released today and it seems to be working again, both in Flow and Precision.

    Thanks
