certainly the amount of disk space the Synchron libraries take up (partly also because you cannot freely choose the microphone positions to use like with OT's Sine) is one reason why I've yet to invest in the newer libraries. If at least the native Synchron libraries do become lossless compressed, it might well attract more sales.

Incidentally, I assume that older pianos like my wonderful Vienna Imperial will not benefit from the treatment?

I hope you do move the other libraries to the lossless compression too. It will especially help with my Synchron Percussion, which is already taking up 500GB and I haven't even upgraded to the full yet.

Well that's good news Ben! Although the Synchron-ized libraries aren't by far as big as the Synchron libraries, are you considering to give them the compressed treatment, as you call it, as well?

Considering yes, but no promises at this point 😊

I'm hoping that this new compressed format might also lead to a mic merge feature, which would be a very welcome development to reduce the system load of the VSL libraries. That and a "niente" feature are the only things that I feel are really missing from the Synchron Player as it stands.

EDIT: Actually, detailed custom response curves in the other players would be nice too - right now only the Synchron Piano player has this in full. The main Synchron player just has these postage-stamp-size curve editors.

I appreciate that for download bandwidth limitations the rollout may have to be trickled BUT can you please give us an answer about what will/won’t be ‘converted’ to the lossless compression?

As I understand it: anything that is not ‘synchronized’ yet has significant conversion issues; and, anything that is either a synchron or a ‘synchronized’ library can take advantage of the lossless compression.

OK -- sounds like good news. Apologies if I've misunderstood about the flexibility to install the microphones as desired -- my memory must be playing tricks on me!

Just a heads up that the Synchron Percussion is now available for update to lossless compression.

In my case, it did not yet update all of Synchron Percussion, only Bells III.

Less space without loss of quality would indeed be very welcome. Each time I buy a new VSL library (last SY Violin and Cello) I have to move some not so often used libraries to my external SSD.

I have just started to move some from a full 4Tb SSD to another!

It looks like the percussion has suddenly gone on sale, perhaps related to this and the availability of the Dorico templates.
