  • Legato Strings

Hi, I would like to know if anyone have some tips to have a nice realistic legato with the VSL Strings. I had in fact some problems with low notes to get a good legato: I got that horrible delay instead typical of chep sounds. I would be much obliged if anyone help me here out!
    Cheers

I have to ask a stupid question; are you using the Legato Strings?

  • Hi Rossano,

    and welcome!

Please have a look at this thread:

Also, Beat Kaufmann´s Tutorials are very helpful in the beginning to learn how to use this library:

  • Try the release control mode in the Performance-Legato folder!
You can change the fade out of the notes with the modulation wheel and smooth the notes very nicely. But don't overuse it!

  • In Logic EXS24 I raised the Release value of ADSR 2 to 170 or even 240 ms, and Performance Legato Violins in Opus 1 considerably improved.

Usually, ADSR parameters are assignable to a real-time controller (CC1, to say) or track automation and so on. By doing so, it becomes easier to adjust legato according to your music taste.

Try with different values for Release.

    Hope this helps.

Does Ines like being listed AFTER your computer, monitor and samples?

    Ines is so patient...

After all, she is listed BEFORE my parents and my dog [;)]

  • Well, I admit I agree with that order in general, especially considering it is VSL samples.

  • Hi, sorry if it takes so long to answer but I was very busy this week, I barely checked my mails..!
Anyway, I had a problem with my system but now everything is working fine.
    ThanX again for your kindness

  • For legato, depending on which version you have, there are actually three legatos. Two are in the Cube and the third in the Performance Set.

In the Cube, you have a .5 length. This is a also a legato because it plays very connected and it's easy to catch, ala Mozart, a number of pitches under the same bow.

In the Cube, you also have on the mod wheel (if memory serves correctly) where with MW in the DOWN position you have the sustained bowing and in the UP position, you have the legato.

The third is the legato within the legato mode requiring the Performance Tool.

  • I think the main thing is to use the regular patches and not only the Performance Legatos. The PLs don't usually work for every note.
