  • MIR 3D Pro Multiple venues in a single Project

    Hello All,

Here is what I am trying to do. For a project, I have many instruments. I use Cubase, VE Pro & MIR 3D Pro. I want to setup 3 venues and distribute my instruments across the 3 venues. I am able to accomplish this. But once I save VE PRO and Cubase, and exit the programs, when I reopen VE Pro, followed by Cubase, all the instruments end up in one venue.

What am I doing wrong ? Is this even possible.

    Please help.

    Ram

  • That's a Cubase-related issue that VSL's software engineers weren't able to solve completely yet.

The workaround is easy, though: Just open MIR 3D (the actual application) manually before you open any other host. This should do the trick for now.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • Thank you. I will try that and check

  • BTW - it would be very kind of you to change your local screen name to something less misleading. :-) Thanks a lot for your understanding!

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Dietz,

    I changed my screen name.

I tried what you suggested. Start MIR 3D Pro first, followed by Start VE PRO 7.

I didn't even launch Cubase, but as VE PRO 7 started populating instruments on MIR 3D PRO, they all ended up in the first venue and the rest of the venues were blank.

Can you let me know what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks

    Ram

  • Thanks for changing your screen name, Ram! Highly appreciated.

Thing is - you're not doing anything wrong. For some reason that's not yet understood completely by VSL's software engineers certain circumstances may occur in Cubase and Nuendo that lead to the behaviour you're encountering. I have a Nuendo project I've been working on last week that exhibited the same fault, but in my case I was able to outwit the DAW by opening the MIR 3D app manually first. 8-/

A wild guess: Does it help when you simply re-load the Cubase project after its first wrong appearance ...?

... and re-reading your initial posting: Is it Cubase that's hosting MIR 3D, or VE Pro? If the latter is true, it might not be beneficial for you, but it might help VSL's developers to hunt down the issue.

    TIA!

  • Hi Dietz

Thank you for your quick response. VE Pro is hosting MIR 3D.

Yesterday I also found another surprise; I started learning the roles; and following the youtube video, I created 2 venues, and tried to set the role following the video. Again I think I did something wrong or didn't understand the process - when I move the instrument from one venue to the next (having configured the presets/roles), the instrument doesn't remember the position. In both the venues it stays in the same position although I configured them different x/y/z positions in each venue.

Love MIR 3D PRO - but there is a learning curve.

    Regards

    Ram

  • Hi Ram,

the all-decisive element is the Role's name (... not the one of the Instrument, although it helps to have them named identically). If you have saved a Venue Preset A with an Icon carrying the Name "My 1st Violin", and Venue Preset B with a Role of the same name, the parameters will either be Auto-applied (provided that the respective option is active) as soon as the Venue Preset itself is applied, or they have to be applied manually (by clicking the the button in the Role's name field):

  • PS: VSL's software developers are hunting down the "wrong Tab"-bug right now!

  • Again, thank you for your quick response.

In the screen shot "Apply Role Features" has many features. There is also the position feature - if enabled does that mean the position is locked for each venue preset ?

So my understanding is - the instrument can be assigned a role - "My 1st Violin" and this role should not change and remain the same.

Then I add a new venue, move the instrument to that venue, re-position it and create a new name for the venue to save it as a preset (without changing the role name of the instrument). Having done this, the venue preset should remember the position of the instrument in each venue.. Am I missing something ?

Exactly (... could also be a different setup for the same Venue, of course). Assuming that Auto Apply is ticked for both the Venue Preset and the Role, all you would have to do is to double-click the name of the other Venue Preset in the browser on the left, or to drag'n'drop it to the application-area on the right.

    Doesn't this work for you?

  • Thank you Dietz,

I am going to test this out on a fresh set of templates and get back to you.

    HI Dietz,

It is not working for me. I am sure I am doing something wrong.

    Attached is a video.

Here are the steps I followed

    a) Launched VE Pro 7 and added a new instance of Synchron Player with Violins 1 from Synchron Strings Pro, and for the instrument in the mixer added Mir PRO 3D inline

    b) On Mir Pro 3D, selected a venue, set the role for Violins 1, named the first venue as Test Venue 1.

    c) On Mir Pro 3D, added another venue, called it Test Venue 2. Moved the violin from venue 1 to venue 2, repositioned the violin. Had Auto save on the presets, but still manually saved it again.

    d) Moved the violins back to venue 1, and the violins position was that of its position in venue 2.

Watch the video and let me know what I did wrong

  • Judging from your video: You're moving instruments between the Venues manually, without ever re-applying the Venue Preset, so MIR assumes that you're actually editing / adding to the already applied Preset. The Role data is saved as part of Venue Preset, and as long as you don't let MIR "know" that yo want to re-load it, it won't do that.

IOW: Just changing Tabs doesn't apply anything automatically. :-)

  • Hi Dietz,

Thanks for pointing out what I am doing wrong. What should I be doing ?

I was following what this video suggested.  Check this video

Can you please clarfiy what I should be doing ?

Maybe this screencast explains it: ->

    /Dietz - Vienna Symphonic Library
  • ... of course that could take place in Venues opened in two or more Tabs, too!

    Hey Dietz,

Thank you for the screencast. This helped me and I got it to work across venues. I am attaching the video that will help others.

    Thank you

  • Hi Ram,

you should have PM from VSL's developers (regarding the "forgotten Tabs-issue") by now. :-)

    Kind regards,

  • Hey Dietz,

Yes. I got a note. I think they were able to fix the issue.
