  • Repitition mode..huh?

I'm a little confused on what this does. I own Opus 1, 2, & French Oboe. I load up the French Oboe, specifically OB2_st-rep9_16-124_f. I load up the preset in PT. OK, so I hold the key, I get 9 staccatos. I release, hold the key again, I get 8 staccatos.. then 7, then 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, then just 1 little note. Huh???

And I thought rep mode was to avoid the machine gun effect..but... you can simply use alternation mode and load up the stac_1+2 for that. So what exactly is rep mode for, I'm not grasping this.

    Thanks!

PS: How come French Oboe came with repitition mode presets, but Opus 2 didn't, even though there are repitition strings included in it?

I may be wrong on this, but I believe repetition patches requiring the performance tool are labeled "intstrument-perf-rep"

I believe what yours is is a staccato repetition of nine 16th notes at 124 bpm. They are just straight up samples not for use with the performance tool.

Yes, this is the right sample. OB2_st-rep9_16-124_f is in the file called 26 OB2_PERF-REP_stac_16-125.gig.

Right, here goes. The repetition tool is designed so that you actually play the repetitions at the tempo you require (must be faster than the recorded tempo). What you do is select the number of reps required (keyswitch defined in the "matrix") and then play. If you hold the key down you are effectively playing slower than the tempo recorded, so that's why it moves on to the next note. The way it should work is that your first note triggers the first note (no surprise there) but when you play the second note it moves on to the second recorded note, even though this may be quicker than it was recorded, and so on. There are keyswitches for various other things that you will start to use once you get the hang of it all. I suggest that you start with the slowest reps as you will have more time to think [:D]

Regarding stacc 1 & 2, you can use these for reps, but they don't work anywhere near as well as the performance reps as you will hear. FWIW I only really started to investigate these reps a few months ago as I was programming a piece that had loads of them. However, they are so useful, even for moving passages sometimes.

I don't think that Opus 1 comes with any performance reps, just reps, so that's why there won't be any presets (pals?).

Feel free to keep asking questions if I haven't been clear enough [*-)]
