  • Overture 4

From September the 1st, Overture 4 notation program will be available as a download from the Geniesoft website. You can, from the same location, also download a demo.
Overture 4 has amongst it's features, the ability to host VST's.
As i understand it, the initial release will be windows, so when osx comes out i'll post back here.

    Regards,

    Alex.

  • Shame it is partly a bug fix from v.3 [:)]

Some nice new features though. It still doesn't double as a sequencing package, and will very likely not replace Logic or DP or Cubase for the foreseeable future.

Have they incorporated VSL support yet like Logic has? They need to to impress VSL owners enough to shell out more hard earned.

As a V3 user, I love it with lots of passion. Just not enough to pay for a bug fix. And I would have to learn a whole new set of workarounds to side step bugs in the new version [:)]

I think that you are not getting the idea behind Overture. It is not designed to replace a sequencer, but rather to give people who are more notation orientated easy access to controller information not readily available in the major notation programs. I have no use for it, as it cannot replace either my sequencer or notation program, but I'm sure that others will find some good things for them in this new package.

I am in the same position as you, DG, in that I use notation programs and sequencers completely separately from each other. But you are right about one thing - I don't get the idea behind overture v4. Actually, I got things totally wrong, as I haven't used the program since it was a baby and still being sold by the cakewalk people. I thought we were talking about SIBELIUS and just didn't read the post properly! Sorry Alex - haha! Serves me right for not having slept in 6 months!

  • Here's an update from the Overture 4 forum.

Articulation is assignable by channel within one stave. It is possible to assign Legato to channel one, Staccato to channel 2, etc.
Playing one line in a stave, you can have all articulations playing correctly without having to create extra staves for each articulation. With full multi VST hosting, it means Overture has taken another step forward, ahead of the other notation programs.
Overture supports up to 256 VST instruments and 4 effects, and plays back all expression marks.
Still waiting on an update about using the pitchbend wheel for tempo variation.
The mac version is due in about a month.
    Further updates to follow.

    Regards,

    Alex.

  • To all who may be interested,
The PC demo version of Overture 4 is now on the Geniesoft website.

    Regards,

    Alex.

  • To those who may be interested, Joe Burrell has just posted an update announcement about automated articulation. As mentioned in a previous post, OV4 is a full hostable program, and articulations can be assigned by channel and voice.

Latest update is OV4 will now respond to articulation marks in score, and respond automatically. So Legato channel one/voice one, Staccato channel one/voice two, etc.
8 voices per track, and as you write articulation marks, the program will automatically switch voices without any extra work on your part. In addition, voice will revert to default automatically.

Things are getting interesting over at Geniesoft.biz.

    regards to you all,

    Alex.

p.s. No word yet on the release date for the Mac version. I will keep you posted.
