  • Hearing a Flange in SYNCHRON STRINGS PRO

    Hi All,

I just bought the Synchron Strings Pro crossgrade and installed it. I am running Synchron player in Logic and have loaded up the factory patches. When I am playing notes on the long articulations I am getting this very evident and strong Flanging / Phasing effect especially on legato patches. This is not happening in the Synchron 1 set.

I have tried switching on and off the reverb, also soloed the different mic and checked different combinations, also tried to delete and reinstall the library after downloading it again, also reinstalled the synchron player, yet this issue is still present.

Please guide as to what might be happening ?

    Thanks and regards

    Neelesh

  • Hi Neelesh,

Do you want to add an example mp3 or send that to support@vsl.co.at?

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Am attaching the mp3 here and will send it to email as well.

  • Hi,

Thanks. There must be something very weird in the setup... Maybe you have activated multiple MIDI inputs or something like that?

Did you try in the standalone version of Synchron Player, or with a brand-new song in your sequencer?

    Best,

  • @Neelesh     I have experienced the same thing and reported it a few weeks ago (along with a example that sounds similar to yours). It seemed it was only happening to me when I was using the VST3 version of the Synchron Player in VSTHost. I initially thought it could be aliasing, but I was told it was probably flanging/phasing like you stated. I don't really agree with this since I wasn't using a flanger/phaser in the chain anywhere (and rarely do). No real conclusion was made, other than it seemed unlikely that there would be too many others out there specifically using the VST3 version VSTHost, if any.

  • I was experiencing the the same issue. Standalone Player seems to work fine, but getting flanging issues when running VST3 or VST2 plugin in Studio One 5. Read Paul's suggestion and saw that I had two instances of my MIDI keyboard listed in the External Devices. Removed one of them and problem was solved.

  • Same thing with Elite Strings. Really weird phasing time to time. No plugins, just Synchron player.

    What DAW are you using?

  • Hi! The same problem here! I export .xlm from Dorico 3.5 and sometimes the phaser effect appears.

Someone managed to solve the problem?

    Thanks!

  • I have Pro and Elite, used it standalone, as vst2/3/au in logic, cubase and studio one. Never had this problem. I’d be really curious to know what can cause this though.

  • I have heard the same problem here - Elite Strings mostly, but I've heard it in Synchron Pro as well.  It happens mostly when using Vibrato XFades, even with a single mic.  It sounds like the transitions are not phase aligned to one another.   It is very audible and has severely limited how much I can use Elite/Synchron Pro vs other string libraries.

  • The phasing issue of the xfade vibrato is a separate issue i think. It’s nowhere near what i hear in the mp3 example on this thread. This one is much more extreme. But i did end up avoiding using the xfade vibrato for that phasing issue, wish they could solve that

  • Hi,

I also experienced this issue. I think the flanging is affecting all patches, but is obviously better noticeable when playing long notes. I use a StudioLogic SL88 Studio master keyboard and had this issue when the master keyboard was connected with USB to my DAW. When I connected the SL88 with midi cables to my sound card, the issue disappeared. Never investigated it any further.

  • Hello,

I had the same issue highlighted in the mp3 file and the cause was an improper manual setup of either my DAW or instrument patches in Synchron Player (colliding MIDI channels, colliding CCs...).

Regarding instead the Xfade related one I read on another forum that somebody resolved it by zero-ing the humanize tuning slider. I'll try that as soon as possible.
