  • its worth a try...

Maybe this has been asked before, if so I apologize.

With the 30% discount upon me I have to ask...

I've been wanting to upgrade my woodwinds for a while now. It's not that I'm not happy with them, its just that they've become the weak link in my sample collection. Yet I can't just purchase the woodwinds and performance patches alone can I? I'd have to purchase both the brass along with it, as well as all the extra stuff that is heaped onto the performance set. I only have so much money and so I couldn't possibly afford to buy the Pro Edition Complete Orchestral Package, besides that once again gives me a BUNCH of stuff I don't really require (as much as I'd love to have it).

So isn't it a bit silly to have a product that I want, but I won't purchase it because I have to buy stuff I don't want along with it? What would be the harm in selling just the woodwinds and their performance set as a single product? Please pardon the gripe, but does anyone have a suggestion, or perhaps an intelligent loophole? I just want those beautiful beautiful woodwinds in their complete glory!

  • Hi Musica 42,

you could also get the Woodwind ensembles, I´m sure that would make sense:

and maybe the French Oboe additionally:

If you want to use Solo Woodwinds, you might want to check out OPUS1 (and maybe OPUS2):

    http://www.vsl.co.at/english/pages/products_%26_shop/horizon_series/opus_1.htm

Actually I think, that this might suit you best.

One reason to create these big packages was the complex distribution for all these different packages, bundles, special offers and of course the packaging itself. I completely understand your point, but when we entered the market we wanted to give our future customers a product that is easy understand. And of course we believe that no musician out there could go on living without any of our samples....

    All the best,

  • Well I took a long look at the OPUS 1 & 2 bundle and while it certainly contains a partial set of the samples that I'd want, I just can't rationalize purchasing more brass/strings/percussion, particularly when that money could be applied to a more complete set of woodwinds.

Then I looked at purchasing the Pro Edition Winds and Brass plus the Pro Edition Performance Set. That would have given me everything I'm looking for in regards to winds, but again I'm paying for a whole LOAD of instruments that I just don't need and therefore can't rationalize purchasing now.

I understand the desire to create a product that is easy to use and managible to package and market and I too would love to own your entire line of products... but unfortunately I'm looking to spend between $1500 -$2000 US on woodwinds alone and I'm unable to do that with your line of products. You have, what I believe to be the best instruments on the market and I want them very badly. But I don't want them badly enough to pay for an additional $1500 to $2000 worth of stuff that I don't absolutely need right now.

I believe this is one of those situations where we both lose.

  • You could consider the First Edition sets of woodwinds and brass. You'd have ot decide by Sept 15 when they discontinue the first edition, but with the summer discount that falls in your $1500-$2000 range. Doesn't have every single articulation and instrument but they've served me fine. You have to be prepared to make some compromises, too [:P] You also don't NEED The performance set unless that's why you're buying VSL... you get all the instruments in the regular set, as much as you would with any competing library that I know of.

  • Seeing as the First Edition is being discontinued... is there any chance that Opus Bundle owners can be given a chance to 'upgrade' to that package during the Summer Classics promotion?
I am a passionate VSL supporter right now - if this were a possibility, I would become a downright fanatic. [[;)]]

  • jc5, there have been several discussions about that in the past. ...
whereas there is an upgrade path from the first and opus (1 & 2) to the pro unfortunately there can be no route from opus to the first.
main reason is, that the content of both (first & opus) is in the pro, but not all from opus can be found in the first.
i'd call it a musical example for set theory [;)]

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • I understand. [:)] [:'(]
Would have been nice though... [[;)]]
Sort of an extra intermediate step along the upgrade path to the Pro Ed., and ultimately the Symphonic Cube.

Guess I'll have to try and muster up some more work between now and the end of the promotion and try for the Pro upgrade right off the bat... (easier said than done.. [:D] )

    Thanks for the reply!
