  • One core spiking

I know this has been asked before, but it's driving me nuts and I cannot find an answer anywhere

I have a fairly new Mac Mini i5 6 cores 8 GB RAM bought 1 year ago. I am using the latest version of Logic Pro X and my OS is updated to the latest.

I just started a new empty project, loaded up Synchron player and smart orchestra, and played one simple chord with 4 notes and the 6th core spikes to 100 %. This happens all the time and Vienna Smart Orchestra is useless to me as I basically cannot use it for anything.

It sound like crap with digital distortion and pops, not to mention if I try and record something the whole system slows down and eventually overloads and stops.

I've been to Apple and they checked the Mac Mini, there is nothing wrong with the hardware according to them.

I've also re-installed the OS, and Logic Pro X.

Other virtual instruments from e.g. Kontakt works OK, even though they also seem to be quite CPU intense.

    Any ideas?

  • I have gotten some improvement in Synchron player by going into settings and checking the box for "Lite Convolution".  It seems to cut back some CPU use more than anyting else I've tried.  Also make sure the preload sizes are maybe a little bigger then what you have.

  • Thanks, I'll try that

  • Hi again

Really stupid question, but where is that setting? I cannot find it.

  • Just a shot in the dark but have you updated your soundcard drivers?

  • Hi Basil67,

    Here you go :-)

Using a Mac Mini, dont think I can do that?

Normally I use PC, but since I needed/wanted Logic Pro X I had no choice but to buy a Mac, and from what I do there is nothing I can update in terms of sound card drivers. Please correct me if I am wrong.
