  • Vienna Suite Pro /MIR Pro - Stereo to 5.1/7.1 Upscale

    Hi all,

I use an audio programe called Audirvane Plus (on MacBook Pro) to stream and play high quality music files. Audirvane can host multi-channel AU plugins.

I would like to use MIR/Vienna Suite Pro to add centre, rear and side speaker output based on appropriate VSL hall impulse responces. However, I would like to keep the original stereo audio (Front L & R main speakers) as original and clean as possible.

What would be the best way (which VSL software) to do this?

    Cheers

    Leif

Our most comprehensive tool to up-mix would be MIR Pro. As it is based on Ambisonics throughout the whole signal flow, it would be easy to de-code the additional channels according to your needs and whishes. - MIR Pro might be a bit "over-featured" for this comparably simple task, though. 8-)

An alternative would be Hybrid Reverb Pro, which is part of Vienna Suite Pro. This plug-in is fully multi-channel compatible and might be exactly what you're looking for. The downside is that it is only available as part of the whole bundle.

... personally, I would look into dedicated up-mixers from 3rd-party suppliers too, like Nugen's Halo Upmix, which does a great job by extracting multi-channel information from stereo sources.

    Many thanks Dietz,

I bought a Genelec surround system:

    3 x 8250, 2 x 8330 and 1 x 7271 sub (All connected to MacBook Pro via AES).

I want to expand my downloaded hi-res stereo files to 5.1 (7.1 in future) and will try MIR Pro first and save for Vienna Suite Pro.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Cheers, Leif
