  • A more complete Horizon Series?

I know you guys at VSL are pretty tight lipped about upcoming additions, but after perusing the Symphonic Editions I have a few questions.

    1. Are there plans to release a more complete set of strings for the Horizon Series? Basically what the Chamber Strings is only with more players involved? 14 Violins, 10 Violas, etc?

    2. Is there ever going to be a collection of the lower register instruments? Wagner Tuba, Cimbasso, Bass Clarinet, Bass Trumpet etc? I know some of those are on Opus 2, but I don't want to purchase that for those alone.

    3. That being said, is there ever a possibility of being able to purchase just one instrument? This way I don't spend $500 for a Bass Clarinet and ContraBassoon. Obviously this doesn't benefit VSL except it will show how much you care about your customers! [[;)]]

Anyway, if the answer to all of these questions is "NO" then I still want to say that I am more than satisfied with the library, but then again, you know human beings, never truly "satisfied" always asking for more!

  • I'm not satisfied with your question! (just kidding)

Actually having a comprehensive woodwinds library of both solo and ensemble instruments would be really great w/French Oboe. I'm sure that a single complete packaged VSL Horizon Library will be in the works to satisfy the unsatisfiable [[;)]]

  • wish list time:

what I'd like is to have the performance set broken out by strings/brass/woodwinds so you could get them separately. If ya did that, I might be tempted to get the Pro Edition Strings. What I really want is Opus 1/2 & a VIP priced Pro Edition Strings w/Performance Set package. (VIP price so that I'm not paying for the Opus 1/2 strings and the duplicate Pro Edition strings).

    and I want a pony.

  • I'm just curious, why aren't the performance set, orchestral cube etc. available for Kontakt/Halion? Is there something stopping VSL from producing that? Or is it in the works?

I suppose that if it's not in the works, it'd be nice to know, so I can start saving up for a gigastudio set up!

I assume its because running something the size of the performance set cube in those formats would just be too much - Giga's way with ram is what makes all this possible really... and even with giga you need more than one system!

A little omission I noticed in the Chamber strings - no finger tremolos!

A horizon package of the less common orchestral instruments would be interesting indeed - all those Wagner Tubas, bass trumpets, oboe d'amore and such.

  • I don't understand the difference between running one of the Perf-Rep patches in my Epic Horns set and a Perf-Rep patch of some violins! Or for that matter, what's the difference in having the exact same patches as the Chamber strings only with more players? A .wav file is a .wav file isn't it? The computer doesn't care if it's one player or 100. Unless I'm horribly mistaken and just exhibiting my ignorance! Which isn't unheard of. [[:|]]

  • What I would like to see is a complete VSL woodwind set with Pro woodwinds, Performance Set for them, French Oboe and Woodwind Ensembles. And a VIP price from my Opus1. [:P] Maybe I'll get rich before the Cube is released. Yeah, right.

  • Oh VSL, why are thou so reticent?

  • No seriously, what is the answer to my queries!

  • We are working on a very flexible and modular purchasing system for our Symphonic Cube release.

  • awesome! thanks herb!

  • I think it would be great if there were a plan to let Opus 1 users keep the same instruments but upgrade to 24 bit samples. I'd pay for that!

This is certainly good news! [H]

  • Flexible enough so that you can by Perf_Leg patches but not Perf_Rep... Or are we talking whole packages?

  • I'll second that opinion - that would be great - except for one thing - on the web site at ilio.com it said (at the time I bought the complete performance package) that the samples were "recorded in 24bit 96k" it never said "and delivere in 16 bit 44.1 k" to be honest, I never really wanted 96k (yet) as I know my hardware wouldn't handle it BUT 24bit IS a real advantage IMO (more so than a higher sample rate). ANyway I was honestly disappointed at the time I received the package (but felt better once I started using the sounds). Anyway - the 24bit upgrade should be made available for a distribution fee or not too much more (IMO).
