  • Synchron-ized libraries with MIR Pro

I bought the synchron-ized Appassionata Strings, which are really great, but am wondering about using them in MIR Pro.

What is the difference between using it in MIR Pro and using the special convolution module? Is there a sonic difference? What is recommended?

I'm asking, because I really like this convolution module. I can't achieve the same sonic impression with MIR Pro (maybe due to my lacking mixing skills). Looking forward to the MIRx presets for Synchron Stage, hoping they will be released soon.

  • As far as I know the synchronized Libraries already include the positioning and IR which should makes it a unnecessary to ad more MIR Ambiance, while I think technically nothing will hinder you to doso if you wnat to.

I fear it can easily become a bit to much additional acoustic at the cost of the recorded originalsound.

Well, I agree: of course Dietz knows very well all the features of the tools he created, and the audio science behind them, so his presets very often sound better than my attempt of exploring new solutions with MIR Pro. (e.g. the IR is including custom Eq, not only position and reverberation). For instance I use Dietz's synchron stage scoring template (you may download it from MyVSL) as a starting point for my synchron stage experiment, and it often sounds better than my manipulation of the default set-up. (because again the position and the equalization of the room are carefully hand crafted).

I'm using the synchronized (and even the close mic of the Synchron) strings in MIRpro when I want for any reason a different position or a very different venue (e.g. smaller dry chamber, larger wet church etc.), and the result is still pretty good.

Since this thread asks for synchronized Libraries, you should remember, that they dont have the choice of a certain Mikrophoneposition (as we already discussed before) and insofar also no "close mic" but only a "Main Output".

To get the most dry output available from synchronized Libraries you could and should presumably at least switch the inbuild reverb of if you want to run them nevertheless through your own MIR-Settings.

More important is still the question if there is any option to switch of the MIR-IRs of which are meant to make the synchronized Products in position and Ambiance compatible with the whole Synchron series.. If not this would limit a bit the chance to reasonable put them in your own MIR-Ambiance.

  • Thanks to both of you. Maybe someone from VSL can chime in to clear things up?

@fahl5: I think there isn't a separate IR to be turned off, if I understand you correctly. It's only a convolution reverb + stereo panner.

You're right with the microphone position, but you have several presets named "close", "classic" etc. It's only the dry/wet-ratio, but don't know for sure.

Of course, I bypass the integrated convolution reverb before MIR Pro, and set the panner back to the center. Then it should be the "original" library, yet re-editited and re-mastered.

    OK the Synchron-Player Handbooks helps:

the synchronized Products provide IR which you can access with the right button in the Delay line of the Mixerslot. You can choose the IR for each section, set the dry wet ratio and yes you can bypass and remove it. So that should allow to get the dry silentstage signal.

While you still should care for the "integrated algorithmic Reverb" which seems to be added in the default settings and as I mentioned before should be switched of to, if you do want the "dry" silent stage signal

(btw. If I remeber right VSL somewhere stated, that in sensu strictu, even those silent stage signals are not "dry" but still have always a bit of the silent stage studio ambiance included. However they are of course the most clean we can ever get and the best starting point for usage in MIR.)

I hope that helps to clear the question discussed here a bit.

Com'on... so please stop teaching non sense and try to understand instead. I wrote "Synchron", and it has a "Close" mic.  To use Synchron strings into MIR you just need the centered and more dry source

For the synchronized it's just obvious it's enough to turn IR off, and center the pan.

    Dont worry Everything is fine.

(Just as I mentioned before even Synchronized-Presets do have the IR and (!) the inbuild algorithmic reverb to be switched of.)😉
