I am a bit confused: In Synchron CFX I'm trying to get the "silent key" effect, but It seems possible only by extending the dynamic knob over 100%, and this makes the piano unconfortable to play.

    Bringing thread up...

Any chance to get silent key in Synchron Pianos? Maybe in a future revision?

  • What is silant key? It sounds like it wouldn't be a good thing.

    God Bless,

    David

  • When on a piano you press a key very, very slowly, there will be no sound. Hammer move but don't hit the string.

Silent key in VSTs pianos replicates this behavior, producing no sound for very low velocities. If you are used to play a grand you feel unconfortable not to have silent key...

    ...really? :)

  • Yes.

    (edit...)

To be more specific: the CFX is now on top list for a more realistic grand practice substitution, mainly because how it sound on complex pieces.

In my case I cannot access to my grand every day, but where I live during the week I bought an hybrid piano to have a realistic keyboard response. I practice a lot with this, but to get a more accurate feeling I use VSTs (obviusly).

Now, when you practice with trills or ppp parts the equivalent response on VST is essential. No silent key means... easier trills, so when I move on grand I'm not confident with them. If I practice with other VSTs (no name :) ) I get a more effective practice.

Sorry for the first short reply, I was in hurry.

Depending on how you host Synchron Piano, there are easily ways around this.  For example, the free SAVIHost can host Synchron Pianos and thus the Yamaha CFX, and includes a builtin velocity curve editor which can with a single click-and-drag map all midi values below whatever value you choose to be remapped to 'off' and therefore not sounding.  There, you now have silent keys; job done. 😊

  • Yes, also in Studio One you do have the Input Filter, I can set Min Velocity to 2% and it works. But, as you said, this is a workaround. IMHO a piano with the quality level of CFX should not need workarounds...

  • Hi all,

I've just purchased the Concert D and I am loving it! Congrats to the VSL team!

Any news on the sympathtic resonance and the silent key? Currently these two issues along wih the missing velocity curve are the only things stopping me from also getting the CFX.

    Thanks

  • Hi cuzzinlouie,

Glad to hear that you like the Concert D-274.

No news on these 2 feature wishes yet, focus is still on VE Pro 7 right now.

I'll do my best to keep you in the loop there. Luckily, the CFX won't run away.

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Is there any news on these issues - the only ones left in this superb piano!

    Best

  • Hi Roeland,

    Sorry, no news there yet.

    Hi Paul,

VE Pro 7 has been out for awhile now, do you have any news for us?

You mentioned in another thread that the silent key is not going to be implemented. Is that a "never" or there is simply no ETA yet?

Regarding the sympathetic resonance, I would not call it a feature request. The feature has already been implemented, it just needs quite a lot more love. I noticed that in all demos showcasing any of the 3 synchron pianos the sympathetic resonance is always turned off. I guess that means that everybody is aware of it's shortcomings.

    Kind regards,

I was the that wrote the post cuzzinlouie is refferinge to.

Could you please let us know if there's any hope the implementation of the silent key function could be on the list for a future update of the VSL piano libraries? As stated earlier, the Steinway D is absolutely superb, but it would be even better if it had the silent key function that the top competitors (all less great!) do have - Garritan CFX, all Synthogy piano's, all True Keys instruments, the Galaxy II...

Thanks for your answer in advance!

    Best Roeland

    Hi Paul,

It would be great if you could find the time to answer...

    Thanks in advance,

  • Hi,

Sorry for the delay, I am still waiting for response from our development team.

We have to find out if this is possible the way you expect it to be, and how much time it takes.

Right now, it is low on our priority list, and the demand seems to be low, 5 users so far.

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for your answer! I understand the delay and I also understand why this will sadly have low priority. In spite of the low amount of users missing the silent key function, I do hope that VSL will go for perfection as that has always been the ethos of your company - and of all those great Vienese composers through the ages that helped develope the piano into what it has become...

Thanks anyway. I'll keep up the hope!

    All the best,

    Roeland

  • Hi Paul, Just purchased the Synchron piano bundle and missed the silent key action in the first piece I played. So instead of 5 there are now 6 pianists requesting it. Love the product, but this is a shortcoming. Ton

  • Hi Paul,

I am interested in buying the Synchron Steinway but I can not listen to the sympathetic resonance feature via the pubblished demos. Therefore, I would like to ask you if this feature is currently working well or if you are working to fix it.

    Thanks
