  • My Experience with Win10 1803 (April 2018 Update)

I just wanted to share my experience with the latest version of Win10.
With the previous version I had latency problems and could not go below a buffer size of 512 without cracks and dropouts. I just upgraded my hardware to a new Intel i5 8600k (Hexacore), 32GB RAM and got a RME FF UFX II, so I was really upset about the performance. I tried and tweaked everything, but it just would not work.
Then I found an article describing that this is a bug in the Win10 Kernel (Scheduler) and should be fixed in the coming April's upgrade.

Yesterday I've downloaded, installed and tested it for some hours.
Downsides: You have to re-set some of your settings (energy-options were back to default (balanced), some new settings I did not like, etc.). I had to uninstall and then reinstall the audio drivers (and eLicenser just in case), but then I was good to go.

Upsides: no problems using a buffer size of 64 (and disabled bufffering in VE Pro), CPU utilization looks good (did not test buffer size of 32). Every other application works just as it should. Performance is much better then before! 🎉
Finally a major upgrade of Windows 10 without bigger problems.... 😃

I hope this report is helpful to someone and would like to know what your experience is with the new update.

    Best, Ben
